The Individuals & Societies class of Grade 6 at the International School of Tianjin (IST) has been studying Tourism and how it impacts human society. As a culmination of this unit, the students took part in a Tourism Fair, where the students acted as tourist agents of various provinces of China. Each province had their own stall and in addition to information posters and slide shows about each province, the Grade 6 “tourist agents” also provided enticing snacks, drinks and handicrafts from “their” particular province to attract "tourists". The fair was a very well attended event with many parents, teachers and students thronging the various stalls to know, from the very knowledgeable Grade 6 guides, about the different provinces of China and the special attractions that they hold.

Monday morning (March 7th) the talented secondary students of the International School of Tianjin (IST) rocked the stage with some scintillating performances in the Art's Assembly. The Orchestra, the Jazz Choir, and the Girls' Dance Crew all amazed the audience with their soulful music, singing and energetic dance moves respectively. While there was action going on the stage, the silently playing slideshow on the backdrop screen displayed the students' outstanding art pieces one after the other. There was also a drama performance as well as a duet, a solo song, a Korean Hip-hop dance and a recital by the string quartet. The Grade 7s enthralled the audience by showing some moves based on their lesson on the Peking Opera. All in all a great show encompassing all components of the Performing and Visual Arts!

With issues of mental health being so closely associated with peer interactions, pupils were introduced to the hugely damaging consequences of bullying from the perspective of health and well-being. Touching on modern issues of cyberbullying, Dr. Cope emphasized ways in which, as a young and maturing adult, a pupil might overcome pressures and challenges that have a negative effect on their attitude and development. Parents from Wellington, as well as a number of guests from the wider community, were then introduced to the concept of dealing with any issues as a family. Offering valuable advice as to how a parent might identify any signs and subsequently further support their child should any mental health issues happen to arise, Dr. Cope introduced a range of symptoms to various issues that parents should always keep an eye out for in support of their child’s development.
