The Haydn Orchestra has performed in important theatres and concert halls in Italy, Germany, Holland and Austria (among them, in the Mozarteum Salzburg and in the Vienna Musikverein). The Orchestra toured also in the USA, in Japan, Hungary and Switzerland; it participated to numerous international festivals, like the Haydn Festival in Esterháza, the Festpiele in Bregenz, the Tyrolean Festival in Erl, the Festival Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Concerto for Timpani and Strings Orchestra* in Brescia and Bergamo, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, Sagra Musicale Umbra in Perugia the 01. His discography includes a double CD release on Virgin Classics/EMI with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic, recordings for BMG with the London Philharmonic, the world premiere recording of music by Zhukov under CHANDOS with the Residentie Orchestra, works by Rodrigo with the Orquesta Nacional de España STUDIO SM, as well as Liszt’s complete works for piano and orchestra with Louis Lortie and the Residentie Orchestra for Chandos. Als muzikaal talent via de genen wordt meegegeven, kreeg Rachmaninov het zijne via zijn grootvader. Zijn droom om een imponerende symfonie te schrijven, wilde echter niet meteen lukken. Nel 1923 Whiteman chiese a George Gershwin, appena venticinquenne ma già affermato per molte canzoni di successo e importanti musical per Broadway, un pezzo da concerto da eseguire con la sua orchestra. Dapprima Gershwin esitò, poi raccolse l’invi- to e scrisse abbastanza in fretta il lavoro, in una stesura per due pianoforti che fu poi passata a Ferde Grofé, l’arrangiatore di Whiteman, per essere orchestrata.
