ADVENTURE TOURISM IN SELANGOR: EXPLORE, EXPERIENCE AND ENJOY! By Nurul Azlyna (CIFP,Bach. Of Acc (Hons), CMI) LET’S HIT THE ROAD Millions of people travel across the world every year and thus, making the tourism industry as a key role in the global economy. According to World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the industry accounted for 10.4% of global GDP and 319 million jobs, or 10% of total employment in 2018. Travellers travel with different purposes where some people travel for leisure or business while some travel due to specific interest such as medical or religion. Given the different purposes, tourism industry has been classified into various types to cater to the needs and preferences of all types of tourists. The following are the categories of tourism1: a. Leisure Under this purpose, travellers simply want to enjoy new experience of a destination and devoting their holiday to rest and relaxation. These tourists prefer to stay in some quiet and relaxed destination preferably at a hill resort, beach resort or island resort. b. Business The travellers’ main motive for travel is for work purpose such as attending a business meeting, conferences, conventions selling products, meeting clients. Business tourism is popularly known as MICE (Meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) tourism. c. Special Interest Interestingly, some people travel for special reasons such as religions, medical, education, hobbies and cultural. Under medical tourism for example, travellers go to places such as recommended specialist centre seeking for medical treatment. Among these modes, bus transportation continues to be the top choice for intercity travelers in Malaysia. Bus offers more flexibility compared to the other transport modes. Due to its relatively cheaper fare as compared to the air transport, bus is more affordable to those with low income. However, bus transport service today is starting to face higher competition from rail and air transport due to their attractive factors. The huge challenge faced by intercity bus transport in Malaysia is the management of its services. The intercity bus transport does not fall under one management; unlike rail transport which is managed under Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), or air transport which is managed under Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB). -

In Malaysia, the problem issues are related to traffic congestion and many user cars on the roadway in daily lives. One alternative mode of using a rail network is commuter, LRT, Monorail, MRT and ETS. Therefore, the Geographic Information System (GIS) technology is then used to map and produce the railway networks history and developments in urban public transportation (UPT). The goal of this research is to identify the heatmap trends of the Klang Valley railway stations which included Kuala Lumpur as urban public transport sectors. It was based on the OSM image layer from the year 1990 to 2019 and studied the growth of railway networks through a polyline pattern analysis. -

A free bus service was introduced in Penang, Malaysia, to support the sustainable agenda and to provide transport for low-income groups. However, the lack of ridership resulted in the service being far from achieving its target. This study assessed young adults’ perceptions of the current free bus service in Penang to design a strategy to attract them to use the free bus. In this study, six focus group discussions (FGDs) were conducted with young adults aged between 18 and 25 years old studying in three different higher institutions located along the route of the free bus. The data collected were analysed using thematic analysis, in which four areas were identified—free service, reliability, information provision, and attractive service. EIA FOR PERBADANAN KEMAJUAN PERTANIAN SELANGOR CHAPTER 1 CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION 1.1 TITLE OF PROJECT 1.1.1 Name of Project This Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report for the Project will be terms as “Proposed 2,497 Hectares Reforestation in Bukit Tarek Forest Reserve, Mukim Kerling, District of Hulu Selangor, Selangor Darul Ehsan”. The Project shall be thereafter referred as ‘the Project’ in this report. The proposed Project is a conversion of the secondary forested area into a high- quality trees plantation, located on a state land with total area of 2,497 ha (6,170.22 ac) at Hutan Simpan Bukit Tarek and Hutan Simpan Bukit Tarek Tambahan in Mukim Kerling, Daerah Hulu Selangor, Selangor Darul Ehsan. The Project area will be developed into high quality trees plantation by using quality rubber tree from the timber-latex clone (TLC) and other forest species. 1.1.2 Location of the Project and Project Accessibility The proposed Project site is located in within the Hutan Simpan Bukit Tarek and Hutan Simpan Bukit Tarek Tambahan, Mukim Kerling, District of Hulu Selangor (Figure 1.1.1). The proposed Project site (Phase 5 and 6) is located adjoining the northern and southern boundary of the existing developed 1,769 ha area (Phase 0). The Project site, located at approximately latitude from N 03° 35’ 0.41” to N 03° 29’ 24.64” and longitude E 101° 30’ 27.33” to longitude E 101° 37’ 35.84” as shown in Table 1.1.1 and Figure 1.1.2.
