Her Royal Highness Prince Astrid Will Attend the Closing Ceremony on Sept Antwerp, September 18, 2014. PRESS INVITATION Closing ceremony: 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games. Because a great performance deserves a great audience: Her Royal Highness Prince Astrid will attend the closing ceremony on September 20. After a week of great sporting action, fun, energy and joy on and off the sports field the 2014 Special Olympics European Sumer Games will come to a close this Saturday September 20 with a high energy Closing Ceremony. The end of the “Games of the Heart” will be celebrated in the company of Her Highness Princess Astrid and her husband Prince Lorenz and 2,000 athletes, 1,000 coaches, families, volunteers and spectators. Celebrities Sandra Kim, Axel Hirsoux, Natalia, Kate Ryan and Stijn Meuris will take to the stage to perform and add lots of energy to the Closing Ceremony. Just ahead of declaring the Games ‘Closed’ Princess Astrid will meet with athletes and their families. The concert will be a large “Thank You” party for the volunteers, supporters and families who have travelled far and wide to support the Games and of course it will celebrate the athletes who have inspired all of us with their skill and passion this week. “We will also use the opportunity to thank the media in Belgium and internationally for their extensive coverage and support of the 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games” says Mark Vanlombeek, spokesperson for the Games. Concerning the broadcast of video images in the scope of a round up report of the 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games, it is not allowed to broadcast the complete ceremony and the musical performances of the artists. About the 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games In 1968, Special Olympics was founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister to President John F Kennedy. Today this Movement serves 4.3 million athletes with intellectual disabilities in 170 countries and holds more than 70.000 competitions offering 33 Olympic sports annually. Every four years the World Summer and Winter Games are staged. This year, the 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games take place in Antwerp from September 9 until September 20. During this period Belgium will welcome 2000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 58 countries in the Europe Eurasia region including 1,000 coaches and more than 6,000 volunteers. During six days of competition, athletes will compete in 10 sports at five locations across Antwerp. Special Olympics Belgium has been active in Belgium since 1979 and organizes National Games annually. We zouden allemaal iets moeten leren van Eurosong. Wist je trouwens dat democratie ontstaan is doordat iedereen mag stemmen op zijn favoriete artiest bij Eurosong? Maar er is nog progressie mogelijk.

Made up of the youth organizations Diversify Our Narrative and GENup, we represent 10,000 youth leaders from across the State fighting for change. Our mission is to ensure that students across California high schools have meaningful opportunities to engage with the vast, diverse, and rich histories of people of color; and thus, we are in deep support of AB101 which will require high schools to provide ethnic studies starting in academic year 2025-26 and students to take at least one semester of an A-G approved ethnic studies course to graduate starting in 2029-30. Our original petition made in support of AB331, linked here, was signed by over 26,000 CA students and adult allies in support of passing Ethnic Studies. Please see appended to this letter our letter in support of AB331, which lists the names of all our original petition supporters. We know AB101 has the capacity to have an immense positive impact on student education, but also on student lives as a whole. For many students, our communities continue to be systematically excluded from narratives presented to us in our classrooms. By passing AB101, we can change the precedent of exclusion and allow millions of students to learn the histories of their peoples.

Over the last two years I’ve been continually impressed by the spirit, dedication, and drive of our students. Their willingness to express their faith through service to others is an example for us all. The future is bright because our students will be leading the change and solving the hard problems needed to build the Kingdom of God in an increasingly secular world. However, our students and young alumni need our continued support. Building on the strength of our peer-to-peer support programs like Link Crew, we have created the Red Knight Engagement Network. A LinkedIn-based support and mentoring program, it is designed for seniors and young alumni to meaningfully connect with you, our entire alumni network. This new initiative takes our support of students to the next level, through college and early professional years, building upon a key BSM differentiator – community. Social capital, mentoring, and relationships are important components of a private school education, and we want to help our graduating seniors and young alumni leverage these tools to reach their fullest potentials.
