The Trials of Spring (Wednesday, March 27 at 10pm) follows three Egyptian women as they put their lives and bodies on the line fighting for justice and freedom during the Arab Spring protests of 2011. Naila and the Uprising (Wednesday, April 3 at 9pm) tells the deeply personal story of a courageous, non-violent women’s movement that formed the heart of the Palestinian struggle for freedom in 1987. An all-female Bangladeshi police unit embarks on a risky UN peacekeeping mission into earthquake-ravaged Haiti in A Journey of a Thousand Miles: Peacekeepers (Wednesday, April 3 at 10pm). Great Performances strikes a festive note with Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration (Sunday, March 24 at 7:30pm), a star-studded 75th birthday salute to legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell filmed at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles in November 2018. James Taylor, Graham Nash, Chaka Khan, Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, Seal, Rufus Wainwright, and others perform songs from Mitchell’s iconic career.
