I am married to Roland for the past 30 years and we have three adult children. René, married to Herman, Corné and Debbi. My ministry started 20 years ago from my home, counseling people (for hours on end!). I never attended any formal Bible-School training and it was amazing to have the Lord “enroll” me at His University and be trained by those He chose as instruments in His Hands specifically for me! As the Lord developed and trained me, the ministry started to grow and I was asked to teach and train what I had learned. There are so many teachers in my life that I need to give credit to, so many that never even knew I existed, BUT GOD DID! I started putting together notes – bits and pieces from all over – added my own experiences – and then a basic Soul Care School developed. Then followed a course on Inner Healing – again notes from all over – tapes I had listened to and books I had read. The need to train counselors arose, and so another course was developed: The Practical Application of Soul Care. I had attended a training school by John and Paula Sandford after reading all their books. They have greatly impacted my life. It is such a blessings to see how their children are developing and growing under the double-portion anointing. The other very anointed teacher in my life was Derek Prince – I learned so much from him and always felt safe as he broke the Word with such clarity and wisdom. Fiona Desfontein also started me on the road of understanding so many things in my own life – where things went wrong and I sat listening to her tapes for hours. I learned so much from Dr. Rebecca Brown and I think she is a very brave lady in doing what she did (and is still doing). It cost her tremendous persecution and much of what we know today concerning the occult is because she was prepared to pay the price of laying down her life for the sake of the Kingdom. I recommend all her books. Selwyn Hughes (“Living with Jesus Everyday”) has also impacted my life with his very specific, unique approach to counseling. 3 By God’s Grace and unmerited favour, He has so developed the ministry and call on my life from starting as a house-wife / Secondary-School teacher with a BSc Degree, now being able to minister in many places in South Africa as well as Germany, Austria, Portugal, and recently in Taiwan. From the beginning, I have never had copyright on my notes / books, etc, as I clearly heard the Lord on this one. It comes from God anyway – He chooses the person as an instrument, but that is all we are. All giftings / revelations come from Him anyway. I would only cover my cost and the books printed were at low-cost as possible seeing I live in South-Africa and the Rand is not very strong. I have focused on the under- privileged, the poor, the prisons, the broken. I sow many books into these areas, as well as into Africa. Somebody approached me and offered me a website free of charge. So now anyone can download whatever they would choose – all free of charge. A pastor has also had all the courses accredited at an international University and these credits can go towards a Degree Course. With all this background, I need to make sure that I give credit where credit is due. I cannot state sentence of paragraph as to where I got what. In those many years ago, I would just write as the Lord would teach me. Never could I have imagined that this is where the ministry would stand today. I can basically name the books on my shelve and the authors just to say a BIG THANK YOU that you were obedient to the call of God on your life, for the cost of remaining faithful to the call, for the cost of the families involved in allowing you to be used by the Lord. May God richly reward each and everyone of you as I was one of the many allowed to partake in the fruit of your labour. I salute and honour you all as a co-labourer of Jesus Christ.     Viking Interview: Q&A with Jamey Jasta By Daniel Offner When uttered, the name “Hatebreed” brings many things to mind, but what stands out most is the vocal talent of Jamey Jasta. Jasta, along with band mate Chris Beattie, founded the band in 1994 out of New Haven, Connecticut. Jasta is not only the lead singer of Hatebreed but has also gone off to do successful side projects with bands Icepick and Kingdom of Sorrow. He has also gone off to host MTV’s reincarnation of the 80’s hit program Headbanger’s Ball. This year Jamey will be touring with both Hatebreed (on the Jagermeister Music Tour) and Kingdom of Sorrow (at Ozzfest in Texas). The following is my Viking Interview with Jamey Jasta. Viking News: Where did the name Hatebreed come from? Jamey Jasta: “From the Misfits song ‘Hatebreeders’. We just took off the ‘e-r- s’.” VN: What inspired you guys to play music? JJ: “Well I think when me and (Chris) Beattie started the band we were already in other bands, and the other bands fizzled out. So to start this band and to play this music the inspiration was to do something bigger and better and more focused. But I think initially for both of us we were just drawn to music because of the community in itself.” VN: What type of bands influenced your style of music as a whole? JJ: “I would say bands like Slayer, Sepultura, Obituary, Entombed and more metal stuff like Carcass. On the hardcore side Agnostic Front, Killing Time, Sheer Terror, Integrity, Earth Crisis and bands like that.” VN: You mentioned Agnostic Front, which is playing the Dour Festival with you guys in Belgium.

It’s been six long years, but New Orleans sludge legends CROWBAR have returned with another righteous slab of devastating heaviness. Led by guitarist, vocalist and mastermind Kirk Windstein — who also lends his considerable talents to the super groups Down and Kingdom Of Sorrow — CROWBAR have influenced an entire generation of metal musicians through the sheer force of their massively detuned riffage and the crushing emotional weight of Windstein’s soul- baring lyrics. From the bruising slow-grooves of their 1991 debut, Obedience Thru Suffering, and 1993’s Crowbar (produced by Down/ex-Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo) to the roaring redemption songs of 2000’s Equilibrium and 2005’s Lifesblood For The Downtrodden (featuring Down/ex-Pantera gunslinger Rex Brown on bass), CROWBAR have honed a signature sound that has become instantly recognizable around the world. CROWBAR began in 1988 as the brainchild of Windstein and multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Bower (also of Eyehategod and Down), with an eye to playing slow and — most importantly — low. “When we started the band, thrash was at its peak,” Windstein recalls. “Then Jimmy and I started rediscovering Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus and bands like that. We started tuning to D and then C and then B and even A on some songs. It was all about how much low-end we could get out of it.” Bower split CROWBAR in 1990, only to return to the drum pulpit for 1996’s Broken Glass and 1998’s Odd Fellows Rest , the latter of which also featured Goatwhore’s Sammy Duet on second guitar.

Modern literary texts often emerge from psychological crises, or seek to capture fictional crises, but once a writer’s reputation is marked by a block myth —a negative formulation that a writer has somehow failed to live up to popular or critical standards of production—literary and philosophical problems can take on the appearance of psychological calamity. Block myths take flight because they are marketable; an established author’s work increases in cultural value when it is perceived to be scarce. Such myths rarely represent reality, however, and most American authors who are perceived to have encountered a significant block, including Joseph Mitchell, Henry Roth, and Ralph Ellison, published a considerable amount of influential work in their lifetimes. These writers moreover shared an uncanny interest in documenting precarious matters of social and political morality, often disregarding conventions of craft and narrative coherence. This is no thematic coincidence. While all of these writers struggled ii independently through personal and intellectual crises, explaining the complex works they produced as specimens of mounting, monolithic block evades the unresolved moral questions—especially of race, ethnicity, class, and progress—they each confronted, however incompletely, in boldly realistic fictions and other accounts.
