Week 2-3: Step #3 Write your report. You will write your report in sections over the next few weeks. Each section must be at least 100 words in length, but no more than 200 words. It is important you choose your words carefully. An example report has been provided at the end of this assignment for reference. You may break down your writing task as follows: May 25-29 Week 2: The first three sections should answer the following questions in 100-200 words each. 1. National Context: Where and when did your terrorist attack happen? What major events were happening in the Middle East or the world during this time? Why or how is your terrorist attack important for or related to the United States? 2. Causes: What drove the terrorists to act? What historical, economic, cultural, or political factors might be motivating them? Why are they doing what they are doing? (If you have not found an answer for this in your research, use the foundational documents we studied in the previous weeks to help you answer this question.) 3. Target: Why did the terrorists choose their location and time of attack? What was the significance or symbolism behind their choice? What were they trying to accomplish? June 1-5 Week 3: The last section should answer the following questions in 100-200 words 1. Effect: What was the immediate effect of the attack? Who, if anyone, was harmed? What, if any, damage was done? 2. Tactical Response: What is/was the immediate response taken by the United States? By the international community? What was the effect of the response(s)? 3. Recommendations: Based on your research and past readings, what is your recommendation for future action(s) to resolve differences and avoid future conflict between the Middle Eastern peoples involved and the United States? (This is a statement of your own ideas about this situation and your personal opinion about possible solutions. “I don’t know” is not an acceptable answer.) CWP B Social Studies Dept. Week 3: Step #4 Create your Works Cited At the end of your briefing, you will include an MLA format Works Cited page to document the sources you used to create your briefing paper. This is the LAST page of your paper. It stands by itself at the end. Your Works Cited page must include at least FIVE different sources and may reference any of the materials in this packet or from your previous two weeks’ lessons. You Works Cited must list in ALPHABETICAL ORDER all the sources you used to write your briefing paper. You may also use outside research materials if you document them appropriately. As any outside sources will most likely be web-based, I will include the format for citing websites in MLA style here. Simply use the information on the websites to fill in the format I am providing for each source you use: Lastname of author, Firstname. “Title of Article.” Name of website. Publisher name, date published. Accessed on date you looked at website. If you have a source without an author, then start the entry with the title of the article or page. “Title of Article.” Name of website. Publisher name, date published. Accessed on date you looked at website. Notes: The Name of website should only be the root of the site. For example, only www.cnn.com not www.cnn/com/bobshaircut/9994278bh3%/lockjaw/908. Publisher name and date published can be found all the way at the bottom of the page in the copyright if you can’t find them anywhere else. Without a Works Cited page, your paper will be considered plagiarized, as it will quote or refer to other people’s work without giving them credit, and we won’t be able to accept it from you, SO be sure to include a Work Cited page if you would like to pass this course.
