M.E. Noordeloos Rijksherbarium, Leiden (With 29 Text-Figures) All types of entolomatoid fungi available in the Velenovský Herbarium at Prague have been studied. In this first report the types of 30 species described by Velenovský in Nolanea, Leptonia and Telamonia (one species) are described. Species accepted been transferred which resulted in 18 here have, if necessary, to Entoloma, new combinations and 4 new names. One described in Nolanea had to be transferred to Pluteus. In the course ofhis long life JosefVelenovsky (1858-1949)described a great number of new taxa in in various groups of fungi. Kotlaba (1977) in his revision of the polypores Velenovsky's life work. herbarium gives a thorough survey of Velenovsky's and Untillrecently only a minor part ofVelenovsky's new taxa in the Agaricales have been revised: Harmaja(1970,1974)published on those in Clitocybe and Omphalina, Hornicek (1957) on those in Tricholoma in and Svrcek (1966) on those various small genera. The work deals with in the and and present Velenovsky's species genera Nolanea Leptonia with one entolomatoid species erroneously described in Telamonia. A revision of his entolomatoid in species described the genera Entoloma, Eccilia, Claudopus, Clitocybe and Arenicola is in preparation. All entolomatoid agarics are considered by the present author to belong to one single genus, viz. Entoloma (Fr.) Kumm. emend. Donk (syn. Rhodophyllus Quel.). As to the Velenovsky's library was restricted works ofFries, Saccardo and Ricken, onecannot be surprised that many species described as new by Velenovsky appeared to be identical with species previously described in literature unknown to him. This was explicitely shown in Kotlaba's revision of Velenovsky's polypores mentionedabove. In the entolomatoidfungi this phenomenon is not so manifestbecause this group of fungi is rather neglected in Europe, except in France, thanks to the excellend work of Romagnesi and Kiihner. Moreover Velenovsky's collecting sites are rather favourablefor species ofEntoloma. In some cases however itappeared be for to necessary to create new names Velenovsky's taxa, as many combinations in Entoloma were preoccupied. Velenovsky's types are depositedin the Herbarium ofthe National Museum, Prague, (PRM) Instituteof Charles as exsiccata, and in the Botanical the University, Prague, (PRC) in liquid. Velenovsky's species accepted here will be treated more extensively in another publication (Noordeloos, 1980) and future papers on Entoloma by the present author. METHODS AND PRESENTATION and drawn in The microscopical structures of the exsiccata were observed, measured am- moniac Red solution after in NH OH. In PRM, however, there are under this name two later collections, gathered and named by J. Velenovsky, viz.: PRM 154381 Mnichovice, collis 1940. This is the collection cited , Rlechac, July obviously by Velenovsky in 1947 (: 78). PRM 154481, Mnichovice, Vsësimy, in piceto vetere, 16 Sept. 1940. This collection contains three dark of pigmented specimens a species which is different from PRM 154381. to the alba According protologueNolanea is a pale colouredspecies common in early summer in I deciduous forests. Considering this select collection PRM 154381 as a neotype for Nolanea alba Velen. The neotype collection contains one specimen in a relatively bad state, partly attacked by a mould, showing the following microscopical characters: x Spores (9.0—)9.6—10.8(—11.3) 6.8-7.9 pm, Q= 1.2-1.35-1.4,L-D =2.4-3.5(-4.0) pm, 5- 6- scattered angled in side-view. Basidia about 30-36 x 9-10 4-spored. Cheilocystidia (?; parts of gill-edge destroyed.) 40-55 x 7-9 /<m, cylindrico-subcapitate with hyaline walls often slightly thickened at apex. Pileipellis a cutis of radially arranged, 4-11 //m wide hyphae. Pileitrama cells inflated. regular, cylindrical to Pigment not seen. Vascular hyphae numerous in pileitrama. Clamp-connections numerous in hymenium, rare in trama. Nolaneaalba is close to N. mammosa Fr. sensu P. D. Orton (1960: 329) but differs in the lack of Moser and pigment. Entoloma cuneatum (Bres.) differsin the more pronouncedlypigmentedcap lack of Entoloma album Hesler is different in the cheilocystidia. quite many characters and belongs to subgenus Alboleptonia. Entoloma cinerascens Hesler is more robust and more typically a member of subgenus Entoloma. to Nolaneaalba seems represent a distinct species, which still has to be transferredto Entoloma. Stipe about 70 x 5-6 (at apex), x 12 mm (at base). Spores = L D =2-3.2 in side- 10.3-12.4 x(7.5-)8.3-10.2 /mi, Q (1.2-) 1.2-1.25-1.35, /mi, 5-6-angled view. Basidia (30-)35-47 x 9-10.5 pm, Q= 3.6-4.4, 4-spored. Cystidia none. Hymenophoral colour- trama regular, composed of long, inflated elements, 230-435 x 12-21 /mi, thin-walled, 4— less. Pileipellis a thin, poorly differentiatedcutis of 10(—12) /ml wide, cylindrical hyphae. Pileitramaregular; hyphae composedofcylindrical to inflated, about 300-520x 20-32 /mi cells. Pigmentation inconspicious, probably diffusely intracellular; also some hyphal walls pale yellow; no encrusting pigments seen. Stipitepellis a differentiated cutis with loosely arranged, 4-10 wide with cylindrical, /mi hairs rounded, sometimes subcapitate tip. Clamp-connections present in hymenium. in Nolaneacrassipes is very close to Entoloma cuneatum (Bres.) Moser, which differs a typical yellow papilla on the pileus and a more or less glabrous stipe. Nolanea holoconiota Largent & Thiers differs in having cheilocystidia. As the name Entoloma crassipes already exists, the following new name has to be introduced: Entoloma lanuginosipes Noordeloos, nom. nov.
