With the small class sizes at USQ, the relationships between fellow students and course leaders are more personal. You always have the possibility to talk to the faculty staff in private. They are very helpful and are looking after their students.

USQ is a very multicultural university. It is interesting to exchange experiences and learn new things from people with so many different backgrounds.

Visas Once you have accepted your offer, you will need to obtain a student visa so you can study in Australia. While in Australia, you will be responsible for ensuring both your visa and your passport remain valid during your stay. To learn more about applying for your visa, please refer to www.usq.edu.au/international/accept/visa Working while studying If you are intending to work in Australia, you can do so, but only once you begin your studies. Although permission to work in Australia is granted as part of your student visa application, there are some conditions that apply. To find out more about working while you study, please refer to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website www.immi.gov.au/students/students/working_while_studying/index.htm USQ Student Services offer numerous support services to students seeking employment. More information about these services is available in the ‘Careers Development’ section of our website www.usq.edu.au/current-students/services/careers Overseas Student Health Cover If you choose to study in Australia at USQ, you will need to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). This is health insurance that provides cover for the costs associated with out of and in-hospital medical treatment, pharmaceuticals and emergency ambulance assistance and transport. The Department of Immigration and Border Protection require all holders of a student visa to maintain OSHC during their entire stay in Australia. USQ’s preferred OSHC provider is Allianz Global Assistance. Your OSHC membership is initiated by USQ when you return your acceptance of offer form with payment of: • your first semester tuition fees (as a minimum) • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the length of your student visa. You will receive additional information about your Allianz Global Assistance OSHC membership during Orientation at USQ. Study requirements – full-time Australian Government regulations require international students studying on-campus in Australia to be studying full-time. To be in compliance with this, students must study at least three ‘on-campus’ subjects per semester. On-campus subjects are those that are delivered face-to-face and not externally. Course-related legal requirements In some Health and Education courses, there are legal requirements which may affect your studies: Working with children – Blue Card The Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian requires people who work with children (under 18 years of age) in particular categories of paid and voluntary employment or carrying on particular businesses to undergo screening through the ‘Working with Children Check’. If a person is eligible to work with children, they will receive a positive notice and a Working with Children Blue Card. Before you can attend your first professional experience placement, you must hold a valid Blue Card. It is essential that you don’t delay in lodging your application. The screening process can take up to 12 weeks or more, and we recommend that this be the first activity you undertake at the commencement of your studies. Further information is available at www.usq.edu.au/current-students/assessment/professional-experience/blue-card Immunisations for nursing clinical experience Before undertaking any nursing clinical experience, you must ensure that you have provided evidence of relevant immunisations. More information is available at www.usq.edu.au/current-students/assessment/health-placements
