Business Directory Hello, Welcome to the First Ever Edition of the St Peter’S Business Directory Business Directory Hello, welcome to the first ever edition of the St Peter’s Business Directory. Created by the St Peter’s Parents’ Association, this publication was borne out of a pro-active desire to assist the wider St Peter’s community; or family as we refer, because: A significant number of parents of students at St Peter’s are self-employed and the recent and ongoing effects of Covid-19 has, and will, affect the business community, with a flow on effect to their employees and hence the economy. Often we hear the mantra: “support local”; we are taking it a step further by encouraging the St Peter’s Family to support the St Peter’s Family in part by utilising this Directory to source solutions to services or products you may require. Furthermore, this publication includes sponsors to the school, which we sincerely value and hope you support in kind if the opportunity avails. Have a good read through the Directory; get acquainted with some of the parents’ names and their businesses – if you see them at school let them know you saw them there; it’s a way of making new acquaintances and friends. St Peter’s is a fantastic school, and we at the Parents’ Association look forward to hearing from you and encourage you join us. Thank you to the team who put this Business Directory together and support from the school staff. • Te Awa Lakes: Housing Economics
5 April 2018 Attn: Paul Radich Development Planner, Te Awa Lakes Development Perry Group Via email: [email protected] CC: [email protected] Te Awa Lakes: Housing Economics Dear Paul, This letter aims to provide ongoing assessment in relation to demand for Qualifying Developments, and also comments on local demand for residential housing in the proposed Te Awa Lakes Special Housing Area. Updating RCG’s Housing Commentary We summarise the key points from RCG’s Assessment of Economic Effects report for Te Awa Lakes below. 1 We have updated these points with more recent data where available: • Net migration into New Zealand remains at near-record levels of around 70,000 a year. • Auckland is still not keeping pace with its own housing shortage, i.e. ‘supply’ of new homes is not matching ‘demand’ from population growth. • Auckland is likely to keep losing people to neighbouring regions such as the Waikato, especially when there is housing pressure (as is currently the case). • Auckland’s house price boom began in 2012 and spread to Hamilton by 2015. In both cities, and most other parts of New Zealand, prices have flattened out in 2017-18. • The average house value in Hamilton is now $548,000, compared with $363,000 four years ago. 2 • Building consents in Hamilton, Waikato and Waipa remain at near-record levels, but have plateaued. 1 http://www.hamilton.govt.nz/our-council/council- publications/districtplans/ODP/Documents/Te%20Awa%20Lakes%20Private%20Plan%20Chan ge/Appendix_6_Assessment_of_Economic_Effects.PDF 2 Data from https://www.qv.co.nz/property-trends/residential-house-values , for Feb 2018 compared with Feb 2014 RCG | CONSTRUCTIVE THINKING.

  • Hamilton Historic Cemeteries Heritage Walks Hamilton East & West Cemeteries
Hamilton Historic Cemeteries Heritage Walks Hamilton East & West Cemeteries Hamilton East Cemetery, Hungerford Crescent: 90 min. Hamilton West Cemetery, Willoughby Street: 40 min. Research and text by Lynette Williams, Hamilton. It has been possible to present only a small selection of the many stories represented by the headstones in Hamilton East and West Cemeteries. We hope you will enjoy this insight into the history of Hamilton. 1 Hamilton’s history in brief. Hamilton was settled by the Fourth Regiment of Waikato Militia in 1864 on land confiscated from Ngati Wairere and Ngati Haua. Militiamen were allotted an acre of land (0.4 ha) in Hamilton West or Hamilton East and some rural land, but life in the new settlements was hard and many left. Of those who remained, and the entrepreneurs and businesspeople who followed, many are buried in Hamilton East or West Cemetery along with their descendants. The life histories of these people reflect the history, inter- relationships and cultural make-up of the township and the Waikato. The first settlers were predominantly British and Irish. Continental European, Chinese and Indian names on the memorial inscriptions indicate a slow increase of new immigrants. The small number of Māori graves reflects the cultural preference for burial at local urupa, though the Māori population in Hamilton was very low for many decades after European settlement. Hamilton’s technological history is reflected in the causes of death – accidents involving land clearance and horse transport decrease, and rail, motor vehicle and industrial accidents increase. The number of children’s graves indicates the high rate of child mortality in the late 19th century, the result of poor housing, health care, sanitation, and diseases such as diphtheria, typhoid and dysentery.
