Ladybirds Home Learning Week beginning 08.06.20 All around the World In our world there are 7 different continents This week we will looking at the 2 continents of North and South America: This is the flag for North America: Watch the Go Jetters video about North America and complete the activities: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/pshe-eyfs-ks1-go-jetters- continent-of-north-america/zdqw92p . Suggested Activities: Look at the world map and discuss how you would travel from your home in England to North America and how long it would take. Compare different ways you might travel. Draw a picture of the transport you would use to get to North America. Design your own flag (attached) Central Park: Central Park is a large park located in North America in a city Called New York. Create a model or map of Central Park surrounded by skyscrapers and tall buildings. What can you use to create the grass and buildings? Discuss if parks are fun? Do you go to a park near you? What is your favourite part of the park? Draw a picture of your park and label the different equipment you can use, e.g. swings, slide or a roundabout. Design you own park. What would you have? You could include a duck pond and benches to sit and relax. Statue of Liberty: This is a large statue landmark found in North America. Design your own statue for your school or the Ladybirds class area. Where would you place it so everyone could see it? American flag activity: Look at the picture of the American flag(attached) and ask the children what shapes and colours they can see. What colours do we need? What colour are the stars? Can you make a red stripe? How many stripes do we need? What colour stripe is next? On the large sheet of paper, mark off a corner for the stars using a pencil and also draw some lines for the different coloured stripes. Ask children to colour the square blue and make red stripes by sticking the pieces of red paper in long lines (or use colours). Find out which animals you might find in the Amazon rainforest and draw your favourite. Compare some mini-beasts you might find in the Amazon with some that you have found in your garden or at school. Brazil: Brazil is a large city in South America famous for its vibrant and colourful carnivals. Make carnival masks to wear (attached). You could even create your own carnival dance.
