Top 2021 Work Zones with Traffic Impacts

Northwest District

: Replacement of the northbound Hopkins Creek Bridge in Andrew County. Traffic is currently being directed head-to-head in the in the southbound lanes over the Interstate 29 Hopkins Creek Bridge. Motorists traveling I-29, just north of St. Joseph, can expect delays traveling both northbound and southbound as all traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction through the work zone. This project is part of Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state. • I-229: A resurfacing project which spans from I-29 north of St. Joseph in Andrew County, to Route 371 (22nd Street in St. Joseph) in Buchanan County. Interstate 229 will remain open through the project, but one lane may be closed in either direction. Some of these single-lane and ramp closures could occur at times. A 10-foot width restriction is in place for the duration of the project. The project is expected to continue through September. • U.S. Route 36: A resurfacing and guardrail improvement project of more than 10.5 miles through St. Joseph between the Bridge to 0.75 miles east of Route AC (Riverside Road). U.S. Route 36 will remain open through the project, but one lane may be closed in either direction as well as occasional ramp closures. A 12-foot width restriction is in place for the duration of the project. The project is expected to continue through early August. • I-35: A pavement repair project in Clinton County of more than 7 miles from Shoal Creek near Exit 48 to one mile north of Exit 40. will remain open through the project, but one lane may be closed in either direction occasionally and some ramp closures may also be necessary throughout the project. A 12-foot width restriction is in place for the duration of the project. The project is expected to continue through July.

Northeast District

• U.S. 61 Bridges in Hannibal – Bridge deck replacements over Bear Creek and NS Railroad bridge between Warren Barrett Drive and Market Street. Expect one lane traffic on each bridge and turning restrictions at Warren Barrett/Red Devil Road . • Business Route 63/ Street in Kirksville – Resurfacing, drainage work, sidewalk replacement, entrances improved, and signal improvements. Expect the road to be narrowed in work zone and watch for occasional closures on some streets.

Kansas City District

• I-435 Bridge over the Missouri River: MoDOT is replacing the bridge deck, reinforcing structural steel girders and doing substructure repairs. Work also includes the extension of the acceleration lane from the Route 210 to I-435 south. Only one lane remains open on the southbound bridge and one lane crosses over to the inside lane of the northbound bridge. • I-29 Bridge replacement over 56th St: MoDOT is replacing the I-29 Bridge over 56th St. Crews will add a sidewalk/share use path and lighting underneath the bridge. A left turn lane will be added to 56th St. One lane of NB/SB I-29 is closed in each direction. Underneath the bridge, 56th St. is completely closed, so motorists must follow the signed detour. This project is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program to repair or replace 250 bridges across the state. • MO 58/Big Creek: MoDOT will conduct a bridge replacement along MO Route 58 over Big Creek on the west side of Pleasant Hill. This replacement will require the total closure of the bridge and a signed detour will be made available. This project is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program to repair or replace 250 bridges across the state. • US 24: MoDOT will replace U.S. 24 near Buckner including the westbound bridge on the west side of Buckner as well as the eastbound bridge over the railroad on the east side of Buckner. Westbound traffic will be moved over to the eastbound lanes resulting in two- way traffic during construction of the bridges on the west side of Buckner. Eastbound traffic will be moved over to the westbound lanes resulting in two-way traffic during the construction of the railroad bridge on the east side of Buckner.

Central District

• I-70 Perche Creek Bridges: A bridge rehabilitation project over Perche Creek in Boone County, west of Columbia. will be open to traffic during construction, but there will be various lane closures and a temporary barrier wall will be in place. Only one bridge will be under construction at a time. The I-70 eastbound on-ramp from the Midway/Route UU interchange will be closed during the rehabilitation of the eastbound bridge. Midway/Route UU traffic will be detoured to the Route O/J interchange to access eastbound I-70. These bridges are included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state. • U.S. Route 63/U.S. Route 54, Cole County: A bridge rehabilitation project over the Missouri River in Jefferson City. Both directions of Route 54/63 will be open to traffic, but there will be nightly lane closures in each direction between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. The Main Street and McCarty Street ramps to eastbound Route 54 will be closed to traffic nightly between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. during portions of the work. The ramp from Route 50/63 will have a lane closure requiring traffic to merge with eastbound Route 54 traffic. The bridge's path will be accessible to the public daily between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. • U.S. Route 54, Miller County: An intersection safety improvements project at several locations in Miller County. This work will require one lane of traffic to be closed at various times and locations while work takes place. • U.S. Route 63, Boone County: An intersection safety improvements project in Boone County. Deceleration lanes, acceleration lanes and other intersection reconfigurations, including J-turns, are being installed to enhance safety at the intersections of Route 63 at Angel Lane, Minor Hill Road, Martin Lane, New Salem Lane, and Loy Martin Road. This work will require one lane of traffic to be closed at various times and locations while work takes place. • U.S. Route 50/Route 5 Intersection Safety Improvements, Moniteau County: Improvements will be made to the intersection’s drainage and pavement by grading, paving, widening and marking the roadways and building new eastbound and westbound turn lanes to Route 50 at the intersection. This work will require various intermittent daily and nightly lane closures and a reduced speed limit at this intersection in Tipton. • U.S. Route 40, Cooper County: Rehabilitation of the Missouri River Bridge at Boonville. Route 40 will be open to traffic throughout the project, but there will be various lane closures. Construction of the project will take approximately 3 months. The Katy Trail will temporarily be closed daily for up to one week during the project for guardrail replacement on the north end of the bridge.This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

St. Louis District

• I-44 bridge replacement at the Meramec River, St. Louis County. This project continues work on the I-44 bridges just west of I-270 over the Meramec River. Update ramps between southbound I-270 and westbound I-44. Work requires one westbound I-44 lane closed around the clock and may require additional eastbound and westbound lane closures. Constructs shared use path and connections to existing trail ways. Work continues through early 2022. • I-64 interchange improvements at Jefferson and 22nd Street, St. Louis City. Drivers can expect lanes closed around the clock. • I-70 bridge rehabilitation at the Route 370 interchange, St. Charles County. Rehabilitate six bridges at the I-70/Route 370 Interchange. At least three lanes will remain open during rush periods, while additional lanes could be closed during off-peak periods, with additional traffic shifts during construction. Work begins summer 2021 and ends 2022. • I-270 North, St. Louis County – various bridge and roadway improvements between I- 70 and the Chain of Rocks bridge. Drivers can expect bridges over the interstate to be closed, as well as various lanes and ramps through the year. • I-270 bridge repair over I-44, St. Louis County. This project makes repairs to a bridge over westbound I-44 that was damaged by an oversized load. This project will require a full closure of westbound I-44 for a couple of weekends, most likely in the late spring.

Southwest District

• U.S. Route 60: This project widens U.S. Route 60 to six lanes, improves ramps from National Avenue to U.S. Route 65 and builds a on Glenstone Avenue at Nature Center Way/Republic Road in Springfield. Drivers can expect narrowed lanes of traffic and nighttime lane closures. The project is to be completed Summer 2022. • U.S. Route 65: This project will resurface the pavement from Christian County Route CC/J in Ozark to Christian County Route EE east of Highlandville. Drivers can expect nighttime lane and ramp closures. This project is to be completed this summer.

Southeast District

• Northbound in Cape Girardeau and Perry Counties will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction as contractor crews overlay the roadway. This section of roadway is located from mile marker 116, near Oak Ridge, Missouri to mile marker 132, near Perryville, Missouri. Work will be underway daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, June 25.

• Construction of the diverging at Interstate 55 and U.S. Route 61 (mile marker 99) between Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Missouri. During this phase of construction, contractor crews will replace the northbound I-55 bridge. Traffic will remain head-to-head on Interstate 55 throughout construction of the new bridge.
