Nerve Djs Worldwide Promotion Packages.Pdf #NERVE DJS NerveDJs.Com was established by four prominent disc jockeys in Cleveland, Ohio. Not satisfied with simply getting music from a local record pool, these four disc jockeys established a union where local and regional disc jockeys could benefit from a union or an association of DJs and musicians in the area for the purpose of economic empowerment. The Association was incorporated in 2003. Nerve Djs realized that bringing disc jockeys together under one roof, an economic force to be reckoned with would be established in northern Ohio. After achieving immediate success, this philosophy was used to branch out to other states. Today, NerveDJs.Com has members around the world. The purpose of the Nerve DJs is not to just distribute promotional MP3s for establishing a music library, but again, to create an organization were both artists and disc jockeys would benefit economically by partnerships with each other and industry giants such as Monster Products, Rane, Stanton, Pioneer, Numark, Native Instruments, and other industry giants, audio manufacturers and software suppliers. Unlike record pools and MP3 pools that simply distribute promotional tracks to disc jockeys and those who claim to be disc jockeys, NerveDJs.Com boasts that they are providing a service that far outweighs anything that a record pool could ever provide. Since the early days of NerveDJs.Com, we have presented showcases, conferences, tours, conference calls and workshops that demonstrate hands-on techniques from some of the biggest manufacturers of DJ Products. At our 2007 event Rane sponsored us and sent DJ Jazzy Jay to present the new TTM 57 Rane. With much success as a DJ Coalition and our membership growing into the thousands, in 2010 we added The NerveDJs Industry Bi-Weekly Conference call bridging the Artists with the DJs that break trax. 2012 we began working on www.NerveDJsMixtapes.com and went public February 2013, it was a slow start but has since gained a lot of attention and was nominated in 2014 as Best Download site and won the AllstarMixtapes.com awards in 2015 as the Best Download Music Site. • The Mixtape: a Case Study in Emancipatory Journalism
ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: THE MIXTAPE: A CASE STUDY IN EMANCIPATORY JOURNALISM Jared A. Ball, Doctor of Philosophy, 2005 Directed By: Dr. Katherine McAdams Associate Professor Philip Merrill College of Journalism Associate Dean, Undergraduate Studies During the 1970s the rap music mixtape developed alongside hip-hop as an underground method of mass communication. Initially created by disc-jockeys in an era prior to popular “urban” radio and video formats, these mixtapes represented an alternative, circumventing traditional mass medium. However, as hip-hop has come under increasing corporate control within a larger consolidated media ownership environment, so too has the mixtape had to face the challenge of maintaining its autonomy. This media ownership consolidation, vertically and horizontally integrated, has facilitated further colonial control over African America and has exposed as myth notions of democratizing media in an undemocratic society. Acknowledging a colonial relationship the writer created FreeMix Radio: The Original Mixtape Radio Show where the mixtape becomes both a source of free cultural expression and an anti-colonial emancipatory journalism developed as a “Third World” response to the needs of postcolonial nation-building. This dissertation explores the contemporary colonizing effects of media consolidation, cultural industry function, and copyright ownership, concluding that the development of an underground press that recognizes the tremendous disparities in advanced technological access (the “digital divide”) appears to be the only viable alternative. The potential of the mixtape to serve as a source of emancipatory journalism is studied via a three-pronged methodological approach: 1) An explication of literature and theory related to the history of and contemporary need for resistance media, 2) an analysis of the mixtape as a potential underground mass press and 3) three focus group reactions to the mixtape as resistance media, specifically, the case study of the writer’s own FreeMix Radio: The Original Mixtape Radio Show.

  • The Riddim Method: Aesthetics, Practice, and Ownership in Jamaican Dancehall1
Popular Music (2006) Volume 25/3. Copyright © 2006 Cambridge University Press, pp. 447–470 doi:10.1017/S0261143006000997 Printed in the United Kingdom The riddim method: aesthetics, practice, and ownership in Jamaican dancehall1 PETER MANUEL† and WAYNE MARSHALL‡ †127 Park Ave, Leonia, NJ 07605, USA ‡88 Holworthy Street, Cambridge, MA 02138, USA Abstract The Jamaican system of recording and performance, from the 1950s to the present, constitutes a distinctive approach to notions of composition, originality and ownership. Emerging from a tradition of live performance practice mediated by (and informing) sound recordings, the relative autonomy of riddims and voicings in the Jamaican system challenges conventional ideas about the integrity of a song and the degree to which international copyright law applies to local conceptions, as enshrined in decades of practice, of musical materials as public domain. With the spread of the ‘riddim method’ to the sites of Jamaican mass migration, as evidenced by similar approaches in hip hop, reggaeton, drum’n’bass and bhangra, reggae’s aesthetic system has found adherents among artists and audiences outside of Jamaica. This paper maps out, through historical description, ethnographic data, and musical analysis, the Jamaican system as a unique and increasingly influential approach to music-making in the digital age. The advent of commercial, mass-mediated popular music genres in the twentieth century has contributed to the spread, in many music cultures worldwide, of a certain conventional ‘mainstream’ form of song, comprising an original, autonomous and reproducible entity with a relatively unique integration of lyrics, melody and chordal accompaniment. In mainstream Western music culture, the thirty-two-bar AABA structure, perhaps repeated twice or thrice with some sort of variation, constituted a quintessential type of this conventional song form.

  • Marissa K. Munderloh Phd Thesis
The Emergence of Post-Hybrid Identities: a Comparative Analysis of National Identity Formations in Germany’s Contemporary Hip-Hop Culture Marissa Kristina Munderloh This thesis is submitted in partial fulfilment for the degree of PhD at the University of St Andrews 3 October 2014 Abstract This thesis examines how hip-hop has become a meaningful cultural movement for contemporary artists in Hamburg and in Oldenburg. The comparative analysis is guided by a three-dimensional theoretical framework that considers the spatial, historical and social influences, which have shaped hip-hop music, dance, rap and graffiti art in the USA and subsequently in the two northern German cities. The research methods entail participant observation, semi-structured interviews and a close reading of hip-hop’s cultural texts in the form of videos, photographs and lyrics. The first chapter analyses the manifestation of hip-hop music in Hamburg. The second chapter looks at the local adaptation of hip-hop’s dance styles. The last two chapters on rap and graffiti art present a comparative analysis between the art forms’ appropriation in Hamburg and in Oldenburg. In comparing hip-hop’s four main elements and their practices in two distinct cities, this research project expands current German hip-hop scholarship beyond the common focus on rap, especially in terms of rap being a voice of the minority. It also offers insights into the ways in which artists express their local, regional or national identity as a culturally hybrid state, since hip-hop’s art forms have always been the result of cultural and artistic mixture.
