The student voting runaround

time an election looms, the refrain is the same: Young people are apathetic about politics. Not enough of them vote. They don't care.

Every - It's true, of course. Youth voting statistics are dismal only 38 percent of eligible voters between the ages of 18 and 24 voted in the 2004 election. Emilie Joslin But at the risk of sounding like we're making excuses, we'd like to sug- gest that perhaps more young people would vote if the process wasn't especially convoluted for them. Monday night saw students traipsing all over Waterloo to vote at high- ly inconvenient and illogical polling stations. Students who live on Bricker Avenue had to go to Noecker Street, but then Spruce Street stu- dents voted at Bricker Residence. Even students who live across the street Hipsters and scenesters from each other ended up, in some cases, at different stations, removing the option of carpooling. Then, once students arrived at the stations, those who didn't already have voterregistration cards were directed to lengthy lines. Music is currently comprised of just three members: Brewis and his brother David accompanied by Andrew Moore. Field Music is a fantastic mix of eclectic tunes, with an emphasis on melody and pop sensibilities. Opener "If Only the Moon Were Up" is in its perfect place on the album, with spiky guitars serving up a poppy verse that seems to mimic The Futureheads' punk vibe; suddenly the chorus melody comes in and turns the song into a saxophone-lead, dual-voiced cre- ation.
