Viswanathan Secretary-General Lok Sabha Published under Rule 382 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha (Fourteenth Edition). Lok Sabha Secretariat New Delhi Foreword In the over six decades that our Parliament has served its exalted purpose, it has witnessed India change from a feudally administered colony to a liberal democracy that is today the world's largest and also the most diverse. For not only has it been the country's supreme legislative body it has also ensured that the individual rights of each and every citizen of India remain inviolable. Like the Parliament building itself, power as configured by our Constitution radiates out from this supreme body of people's representatives. The Parliament represents the highest aspirations of the people, their desire to seek for themselves a better life. dignity, social equity and a sense of pride in belonging to a nation, a civilization that has always valued deliberation and contemplation over war and aggression. Democracy. as we understand it, derives its moral strength from the principle of Ahimsa or non-violence. In it is implicit the right of every Indian, rich or poor, mighty or humble, male or female to be heard. The Parliament, as we know, is the highest law making body. It also exercises complete budgetary control as it approves and monitors expenditure.

It has been accepted for inclusion in Northwestern Journal of International Law & Business by an authorized administrator of Northwestern University School of Law Scholarly Commons. “You Say Nano, We Say No-No:” Getting a “Yes” Instead for Special Economic Zones in India Sumeet Jain* Abstract: Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have the potential to be valuable in- struments of economic growth and development in India. Yet, as a result of the resistance facing them, SEZs in India have not delivered economic benefits to their fullest potential. For this reason, reducing the resistance facing SEZs is critical to their success. This article seeks to reduce this resistance by devising a consensus-building plan based on a regulatory negotiation approach. The ar- ticle first shows that the past and present resistance facing India’s economic zones is a product of the lack of public input in the design of their policy. It then presents a platform for understanding the proponents’ and opponents’ argu- ments by distilling the current legislation and regulation governing India’s SEZ policy into a cohesive operational framework.

  • HEROINE Unveiled at Cannes ~ Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhur Bhandarkar and Ronnie Screwvala Come Together to Announce the Much Awaited Film~
HEROINE unveiled at Cannes ~ Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhur Bhandarkar and Ronnie Screwvala come together to announce the much awaited film~ Cannes, 13th May 2011: Cannes 2011 saw yet another splash of glamour with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhur Bhandarkar and Ronnie Screwvala coming together to announce their upcoming movie HEROINE. The trio was seen together for the first time to announce their association for the bold and glamorous saga, with the unveiling of the first look of the film at the prestigious film festival. Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and produced by UTV Motion Pictures, HEROINE will star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan essaying the role of a superstar. The film is scheduled to go on the floors in June this year. About the Film: After his incredible run of women-centric films from Chandni Bar, Page 3, Satta and Corporate to the blockbuster Fashion, produced by UTV, Madhur Bhandarkar now turns his lens inward and presents his most ambitious work yet - HEROINE. The film is based on the life and times of a superstar heroine from the dream factory we call 'Bollywood'. The film is an entertaining, daring, emotional, shocking, glamorous, scandalous behind the scenes account of the reality behind the world of glitz and glamour that our film stars inhabit. For a country obsessed with films and film stars, HEROINE will take audiences on a voyeuristic journey to see what really goes on behind the closed doors of make up rooms and vanity vans. It will give them a chance to go beyond the gorgeous smiles and politically correct quotes, to see what really happens in the lives of India's sweethearts - The sniping & the politics, the secrets & the lies, the incredible highs of fame & the lonely depths of failure.

THE STATE OF ARTISTIC FREEDOM 2018 FREEMUSE THE STATE OF ARTISTIC FREEDOM 2018 1 Freemuse is an independent international organisation advocating for and defending freedom of artistic expression. We believe that at the heart of violations of artistic freedom is the effort to silence opposing or less preferred views and values by those in power – politically, religiously or societally – mostly due to fear of their transformative effect. With this assumption, we can address root causes rather than just symptoms – if we hold violators accountable. Our approach to artistic freedom is human rights-based as it provides an international legal framework and lays out the principles of accountability, equality and non-discrimination, and participation. ©2018 Freemuse. While this thesis is theoretically true, it only showcases one side of the equation. Digitisation is a double-edged sword and is likely to transform the broadcast space with power shifting from distribution / broadcasting networks to content. In such a scenario, we believe broadcasting networks like ZEEL, Star India and Sun TV Network face a huge challenge of investing in compelling content in an era of accessible distribution. Star India has upped the ante by large audacious bets on sport (cricket) and movie satellite rights.

  • Law and Order Do Not Always Go Together. Vigilantism As Citizens Attempt to Enforce Order Outside the Law Is Rising
“Law and order do not always go together. Vigilantism as citizens attempt to enforce order outside the law is rising. Comprehensive studies about the phe- nomenon have been lacking. The 17 case studies and the conceptual and com- parative discussion by the editors go a long way to fill the void. A must read in these times of rising populism and xenophobia.” - Prof. em. Alex P. Schmid, Editor-in-Chief of ‘Perspectives on Terrorism’ and former Officer-in-Charge of the Terrorism Prevention Branch of UNODC. “Theoretically astute, empirically sound, this volume is the authoritative source on the growing phenomena of vigilantism around the world. This study is essential reading for anyone who is interested in understanding the changing nature of coercion, and the shifting relations of social and political order in the 21st century.” - James Sheptycki, York University, Canada. “Vigilantism poses a serious threat to democracy. It is therefore an important, yet understudied phenomenon in criminology. This edited volume raises important issues regarding the conditions under which different kinds of vigilantism emerge. Using case studies from different countries, this edited volume provides challenging new insights which are of importance to both academics and policy makers.” - Prof. Lieven Pauwels, Ghent University, Belgium. “This book is richly researched and extremely timely. The spread of vigilantism in our increasingly fractured world should stimulate debate about the nature and significance of state power, whether ‘private’ vigilante actors are in fact detached from their governments, and when right-wing vigilantism becomes a necessary component of state Fascist operations.” - Prof. Martha K. Huggins, Tulane University (emerita), USA.
