FILM SELECTION JURY PHILIPPINES Ruby Cristobal Chief, S&T Manpower Education Research and Promotions Division Science Education Institute - Department of Science and Technology

Ruby Roan-Cristobal, a BS Biology graduate of the University of the Philippines-Diliman, is a seasoned science communication specialist, a broadcaster and project development manager having dedicated more than 30 years of her career in planning and implemen- ting programs and projects that stimulate the interests of the youth in science and tech- nology. Armed with passion in communication, she pursued a Master of Professional Stu- dies in Development Communication degreeat the UP Open Universityand later took Ph.D. in Communication at UP Diliman. She also attended an Australian Award Fellowship on “Strengthening STEM in the Philippine Education System” in Queensland University of Tech- nology in Brisbane, Australia further contributing to research in the country’s science edu- cation landscape.

She now heads the S&T Manpower Education Research and Promotions Division of the Science Education Institute-Department of Science and Technology (SEI-DOST), taking charge of science education research, S&T culture promotion, and information systems and IT infrastructure development works in the Institute. Equipped with long years of experi- ence and unmatched passion in science education, she continues to design and implement innovative programs that would influence the current generation to embrace S&T and inno- vation as a way of life and as the best way forward.

Joseph Jacob Education Program Specialist Bureau of Secondary Education, Department of Education

Joseph R. Jacob has spent most of his career life in the field of education as professional physical science teacher and school academic head. His desire to improve the quality of education in his country has lead him to serve in the Department of Education as Education Program Specialist where he takes charge of the development of science curricula, plan- ning and conduct of teacher and school administrator capacity-building activities, school guidelines and policy formulation, and nationwide assessment and monitoring of educa- tion programs . He is also the program manager of all the Regional Science High Schools, feeder schools for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program. His passion in scientific researchhas made him involved in the selection of candidates to be sent to compete in the annual International Science and Engineering Fair being held in USA. He has become an international and nationwide resource speaker on various educa- tion-related topics such as assessment, instructional leadership and curriculum mapping to name a few.

Maria Isabel Garcia is a science writer. She has written two books, Science Solitaire (Natio- nal Book Award, 2007) and Twenty One Grams of Spirit and Seven Ounces of Desire (Gin- tong Aklat Award, 2010), both published by the Ateneo de Manila University Press. She also writes a weekly science column for Rappler.com called ”Science Solitaire.” She is cur- rently the curator of The Mind Museum. a science museum located in , .

Princess Grace C. Wooden Deputy Director Thomas Jefferson Information Center Public Affairs Section, US Embassy Manila

Princess Grace C. Wooden is a graduate of BS Education major in Library Science from Saint Louis University, Baguio City. Currently she is working at the US Embassy Manila Public Affairs Section, Thomas Jefferson Information Center as a Deputy Director. She handles the 14 American Corners situated in Universities located throughout the Philippines. American Corners provide information about the United States and access to English language lea- rning and resources, conduct educational and cultural programs, and promote interaction with alumni of U.S. universities and U.S. government exchange programs. Ms. Wooden over- sees all aspects of American Corner (AC) operations, including reporting, staff training, and preparation of the annual AC funding request. Maintains professional relationships with high and mid-level contacts throughout the country who are important for the ACs and their programming. Some programs of the American Corners supports the Mission’s objec- tive to support Philippine efforts to mitigate the impact of natural disasters and incre- ase resilience to global climate change through natural resource management and disaster risk reduction. American Corners throughout the Philippines host environmental awareness programs across the country thru films to spark discussions about climate change.

Ronn took up Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising at Bulacan State University and graduated last 2008. Then, he has been a freelance artist until now. Aside from embracing arts, Ronn also loves to share thoughts to people, even talking to different people of different ages. He worked as a tour guide at the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center at SM Mall of Asia from 2009 to 2010. After that, he decided to took time for arts again, he joined exhibitions. During those days, he realized that he was missing something, the bond with children and people. In 2011, Ronn was given a chance to be a part of the foundation, Museo Pambata. Really for children and children at heart. He was a Museum Guide and now a Head Guide. The Guides Department is facilitating arts and crafts activities and promoting recycling for children every first and third Sunday of the month. A package which came across. Eisen Bernard V. Bernardo is a BS Development Communication graduate of the Univer- sity of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). He is one of the staff of the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity’s Communication and Public Affairs unit. As a multimedia producer/writer, he is tasked to write and produce audiovisual presentations, and to design publications and other communication materials. He is also part of ACB’s social media team. Egbert Marasigan Amoncio is a 4th year BS Statistics major, studying in the University of the Philippines-Diliman. Coming from a science high school, his love and passion for science never ceased. For that reason, he joined the largest science umbrella organization called Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs. This organization aims to promote Public Understanding of Science Technology and the Environment. Currently, he is the President of the National Executive Council, leading an arm of volunteers towards attaining the aforementioned thrust.

Alongside PSYSC, he is an active member in different kinds of organizations namely Political, Cultural, Marketing and Academic organizations. His advocacy in student- volunteerism brought him all the way to Frankfurt, in a recently concluded social internship called Global Community Development Program. His unparalleled enthusiasm in serving the society made him decide to pursue a degree in Masters of Nonprofit Financial Management abroad. Now, with his expertise in event organization, he continues to create different socially relevant events.
