Abstract Visitor use management is essential for maximizing benefits for visitors while achieving and maintaining desired resource conditions and visitor experiences on federally managed lands and waters. Visitor capacity, a component of visitor use management, is defined as the maximum amounts and types of visitor use that an area can accommodate while achieving and maintaining the desired resource conditions and visitor experiences that are consistent with the purposes for which the area was established. This visitor capacity guidebook, in combination with the “Visitor Use Management Framework,” provides managers with processes to collaboratively

Abstract Lamu Island on the Kenyan coast is the home of a society with a thousand year history of contacts with other cultures through trade and shipping. The loss of its traditional socio- economic base has led to the entry of tourism as the main income generating activity and the major contact with distant peoples. Tourism in Lamu is based on the old heritage in combination with a rich but sensitive trop- ical landscape. One concern is how to develop tourism and at the same time preserve a cer- tain set of landscape values. The thesis is based on observations and interviews with the host community in Lamu, focusing on how the local community conceptualize and adjust to the transformations in their envisaged and experienced landscape as a result of their involvement in tourism. Modern tourism ought to be closely linked to development in all respects and could be regarded as an important part of an open society which gives possibilities for interac- tion between people from different backgrounds. This investigation focus on the socio- cul- tural dimensions of sustainability and deals with the residents’ adaption to the new opportuni- ties. The analysis show that the meeting with tourism gives certain effects in the social land- scape such as the accentuation of differences already existing in the society, the evolvement of a new moral landscape and the highlighting of the need of strategies to achieve sustainable development.

    4.5 • ROUTING ALGORITHMS 363 two hosts enjoy the security services provided by IPsec. On the sending side, the transport layer passes a segment to IPsec. IPsec then encrypts the segment, appends additional security fields to the segment, and encapsulates the resulting payload in an ordinary IP datagram. (It’s actually a little more complicated than this, as we’ll see in Chapter 8.) The sending host then sends the datagram into the Internet, which transports it to the destination host. There, IPsec decrypts the segment and passes the unencrypted segment to the transport layer. The services provided by an IPsec session include: • Cryptographic agreement. Mechanisms that allow the two communicating hosts to agree on cryptographic algorithms and keys. • Encryption of IP datagram payloads. When the sending host receives a segment from the transport layer, IPsec encrypts the payload. The payload can only be decrypted by IPsec in the receiving host. • Data integrity. IPsec allows the receiving host to verify that the datagram’s header fields and encrypted payload were not modified while the datagram was en route from source to destination. • Origin authentication. When a host receives an IPsec datagram from a trusted source (with a trusted key—see Chapter 8), the host is assured that the source IP address in the datagram is the actual source of the datagram. When two hosts have an IPsec session established between them, all TCP and UDP segments sent between them will be encrypted and authenticated. IPsec there- fore provides blanket coverage, securing all communication between the two hosts for all network applications.

    Lecture Notes on Substructural Operational Semantics 15-816: Linear Logic Frank Pfenning Lecture 12 February 27, 2012 In this lecture we view the operational semantics of a programming lan- guage as a stateful system with some transitions. This suggests we should be able to describe it in linear logic in a way that is analogous to the early examples used in this class, like blocks world. Since we use linear logic to describe operational semantics, we could use the term linear operational semantics to describe this technique. It turns out that other substructural logics, like ordered logic [PS09] or affine logic are often more appropriate, so we refer to it more generally as substructural operational semantics [Pfe04] (SSOS). The particular semantics that we will describe is a transcription of the semantics via the translation to the session-typed π-calculus presented in the last lecture. 1 General Principles The general idea is that we describe the state of a (potentially nondeter- ministic) abstract machine by propositions in linear logic. These are of the following forms: Evaluation: eval(M; x) means that we would like to evaluate M and com- municate the value along channel x. In the terminology of SSOS, x is called a destination.
