______Dr. Syed Manzoorul Islam is Professor of English at the University of , and an award winning fiction writer. He is also an art critic and has curated art exhibitions in UK, India and Iran. He has been a Fulbright Scholar and spent a semester teaching at the University of Southern Mississippi at Hattiesburg, USA in 1989.

Dr. Islam’s areas of special interest include Shakespeare, Modern Poetry and Fiction, Literary Theory, Postmodernism and Post-Colonialism and Translatology. He is a noted column writer and a contributor to leading Bangla dailies (Prothom Alam, Somokal) and writes on political and social Issues. He is also an occasional political analyst for the BBC.

Dr. Islam was a member of the jury of the Commonwealth Writers Prize in 1989 (Eurasia Region) and is a jury for the 2008 Asian Art Biennale in Dhaka.

• I have published about 30 articles in English in academic journals at home and abroad on individual authors, Literary Theory, Translatology, Subaltern Historiography, Postmodern and Postcolonial Literature, Art History etc.

• I have also published about 25 articles in Bangla on individual authors, literary movements and genres in leading journals in Bandladesh and India

• Wrote a play for Theatre (Arambagh Theatre Group), Bhuboner Ghate, which received Bangladesh film critics association (Bachasas) award for best stage play, 2006.

• Wrote more than 20 plays (one a 13 week serial) for BTV and other Television channels in Bangladesh.

Literary and Political Columns:

• Wrote a literary column for the literary page of Daily Sangbad for nearly 20 years (1984- 2003) on world literature, titled Olosh Diner Hawa.

• Wrote a literary column for the literary page of Daily Independent for 2 years (2002-2004) on literature, art and culture.

• Wrote a column, Roye Shoye, for Bhorer Kagoj (2003-2005) dealing with political and social issues.

• Write a regular column, Khola Hawa, for Prothom Alo dealing with political, social and educational issues.
