Bella Hadid in Elie Saab
Editor’s LETTER We have weddings on the brain this issue. Not only do we have the brand new season of Bridal Fashion Week to fawn over, but a certain former First Avenue cover star only went and married herself a Prince… and we’re making pretty big deal out of it! Once you’re done with staring at pictures of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s glorious Royal Wedding, we invite you to cast your eyes over to Hollywood royalty in the form of the sparkling Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Is it just us, or do the looks get better and better each year? And that’s not all – from gushing over cover star Penelope Cruz and her glorious style, to showing you how to steal a very simple but oh so chic Burberry-heavy celeb look, it’s a jam-packed issue to say the least! Plus, keep the sun out in style with our selection of the most fashionable, statement-making sunglasses around. And we haven’t even mentioned our trendy leopard print edit yet… “Myles Mellor PENELOPE CRUZ - PAGE 38 6 CONTENTS June - July 2018 Style Crushing on… 38 Penelope Cruz Bridal Fashion Week… 12 Spring 2019 Eye Spy… 64 Stunning new season sunnies 10 38 Trend to Try… 32 Leopard print Cannes Film Festival 2018 52 Our most glamorous red carpet looks Get the Look… 10 Dove Cameron 12 52 www.firstavenuemagazine.com First Avenue Magazine @firstavenuemagazine 8 Publisher Hares Fayad Editor Myles Mellor Senior writer Maria Pierides Art Director Ahmad Yazbek Overseas Contributers Nabil Massad, Paris Kristina Rolland, Italy Samo Suleiman, Lebanon Isabel Harsh, New York Kamilia Al Osta, London Offices (U.A.E.), Dubai Jumeirah Lakes Towers, JBC 2 P.O. -

Montenegro 2019 Human Rights Report
MONTENEGRO 2019 HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Montenegro is a mixed parliamentary and presidential republic with a multiparty political system. Voters choose both the president and the unicameral parliament through popular elections. The president nominates, and the parliament approves, the prime minister. An observation mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR) stated the 2016 parliamentary elections were conducted in a competitive environment and that fundamental freedoms were generally respected. The opposition coalition did not accept the election results and began a continuing boycott of parliament, although all but two parties have since returned. In April 2018 Milo Djukanovic, president of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), was elected president, winning approximately 54 percent of the vote in the first round for his second term as president. He had already served six terms as prime minister. Observers from the OSCE/ODIHR, the European Parliament, and the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly noted the election proceeded in an orderly manner but had a few minor irregularities that did not affect the outcome. Despite opposition protests, elections were generally considered free and fair. The National Police Force, which includes Border Police, is responsible for maintaining internal security. They are organized under the Ministry of Interior and report to the police director and, through him, to the prime minister. Civilian authorities maintained effective control over the security forces. Significant human rights issues included: unsolved attacks on journalists and pressure on the press including violence or threats of violence; corruption; trafficking in persons; and crimes involving violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) persons. -

An observation mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe stated that the August 30 parliamentary elections were overall transparent and efficient, but highlighted that the ruling party gained an undue advantage through misuse of office and state resources and dominant media coverage, which undermined the quality of information available to voters. Milo Djukanovic, president of the Democratic Party of Socialists was elected president in 2018 with nearly 54 percent of the vote in the first round for his second term as president. Metaphors of Love in 1946–2016 Billboard Year-End Number-One Songs
Text&Talk 2021; 41(4): 469–491 Salvador Climent* and Marta Coll-Florit All you need is love: metaphors of love in 1946–2016 Billboard year-end number-one songs https://doi.org/10.1515/text-2019-0209 Received June 25, 2019; accepted September 19, 2020; published online October 26, 2020 Abstract: This study examines the use of metaphors, metonymies and meta- phorical similes for love in a corpus of 52 year-end number one hit songs in the USA from 1946 to 2016 according to Billboard charts. The analysis is performed within the framework of Conceptual Metaphor Theory and from quantitative and quali- tative perspectives. Our findings indicate that the theme of romantic love is prevalent in US mainstream pop music over the course of seven decades but shows evolutionary features. Metaphors of love evolve from conventional to novel with a notable increase in both heartbreak and erotic metaphors. Remarkably, the study finds that the two predominant conceptualizations of love in pop songs – which in a significant number of cases overlap – are the following: experiential, originating in the physical proximity of the lovers, and cultural, reflecting possession by one lover and showing a non-egalitarian type of love. Keywords: Conceptual Metaphor Theory; corpus linguistics; metaphor; pop music; romantic love 1 Introduction The central theme of a large number of pop songs is some facet of romantic love. Starr and Waterman (2003: 105–110, 199–200) noted this to be already the case in the Tin Pan Alley era in the USA of the 1920s and 1930s and the trend continued through the 1940s and 1950s, when the entertainment industry grew exponen- tially: “total annual record sales in the United States rose from $191 million in 1951 to $514 million in 1959” (Starr and Waterman 2003: 252). -

Council of Fashion Designers of America
Council of Fashion Designers of America ANNUAL REPORT 2017 The mission of the Council of Fashion Designers of America is to strengthen the impact of American fashion in the global economy. B 1 Letter from the Chairwoman, Diane von Furstenberg, and the President and Chief Executive Officer, Steven Kolb In fashion, we respond to the world we live in, a point that was powerfully driven home in 2017. We were excited to see talents with broad cultural backgrounds and political ideas begin to express their experiences and beliefs through their collections. Diversity moved into the spotlight in ways we have never seen before. Designers embraced new approaches to business, from varying show formats to disruptive delivery cycles. It was also the year to make your voices heard, and CFDA listened. We engaged in civic initiatives important to our industry and partnered with Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and FWD.us. We also relaunched our CFDA Health Initiative with guidelines to help those impacted by sexual assault or other forms of abuse. There’s no going back. In 2018, CFDA is moving ahead at full speed with an increased focus on inclusivity and women in fashion, the latter through an exciting new study with Glamour magazine. We may be a reflection of the world we live in, but we also work hard to make that world a better place.
