The Erysiphales species Phyllactinia hippophaës Thüm. ex S. Blumer was found for the fi rst time on cultivated Sea Buckthorn (Hippophaë rhamnoides L.) near Großkayna (Saxony-Anhalt) in October 2009. This fungus was considered to be extinct in Germany. Intensive searching in Saxony-Anhalt and the Potsdam area (Brandenburg) yielded many additional records, most of them from former brown coal mining areas or in Sea Buckthorn plantations.
