Canaanite/Ugaritic Mythology
Canaanite/Ugaritic Mythology I. Who do we mean by 'Canaanites'? Linguistically, the ancient Semites have been broadly classified into Eastern and Western groups. The Eastern group is represented most prominently by Akkadian, the language of the Assyrians and Babylonians, who inhabited the Tigris and Euphrates river valleys. The Western group is further broken down into the Southern and Northern groups. The South Western Semites inhabited Arabia and Ethiopia while the North Western Semites occupied the Levant - the regions that used to be Palestine as well as what is now Syria, Israel and Lebanon, the regions often referred to in the Bible as Canaan. Recent archaeological finds indicate that the inhabitants of the region themselves referred to the land as 'ca-na-na-um' as early as the mid-third millennium B.C.E. (Aubet p. 9) Variations on that name in reference to the country and its inhabitants continue through the first millennium B.C.E. The word appears to have two etymologies. On one end, represented by the Hebrew cana'ani the word meant merchant, an occupation for which the Canaanites were well known. On the other end, as represented by the Akkadian kinahhu, the word referred to the red-colored wool which was a key export of the region. When the Greeks encountered the Canaanites, it may have been this aspect of the term which they latched onto as they renamed the Canaanites the Phoenikes or Phoenicians, which may derive from a word meaning red or purple, and descriptive of the cloth for which the Greeks too traded. -

The monograph covers the author’s research carried out in 1970-80-ies. 3 Assuming that Nikolas of Cusa is regarded as the forefather of the European science, Grigor Narekatsi is undoubtedly its founder-father. S. Poghosyan Introduction The end of the first and the beginning of the second millennia A.D. witnessed momentous changes in the Armenian homeland. They were great progressive changes, important developments towards national independence and social progress. It was a period of transition from Early Feudalism to Late Feudalism, and, as any transitional period, it was also an era of utmost aggravation of social-political, social-economic conflicts, ideological clashes, reconsideration of the foundations of dominant ideologies, reevaluation and reinterpretation of cultural values. And though the statehood was restored in Armenia, in parallel with the external threat, the problems of national independence, the establishment and sustention of a united and centralized state kept on being unsolved; continuous discords between separate feudal formations decomposed and tortured the country and prevented the achievement of a national unity. On the one hand, feudal relations strengthened, underwent automatic development and were improved (bondage of a great number of peasants in the result of the intensification of feudal exploitation, pressure apparatuses structure strengthening of secular and religious authorities, economic and military reinforcement, the great center-cities of feudal formations flourishedcrafts and trades were developed), on the other hand, the resistance of the exploited stiffened too; class struggle escalated. -

I understand that my thesis may be made electronically available to the public. ii Abstract In his analysis of Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita, Elliot Mason explores the biblical and mythological ancestry of two of the novel’s most under-studied demonic characters: Azazello and Korov′ev-Fagot. Both characters, it is argued, serve important thematic roles within The Master and Margarita, acting as symbols of the oppressed artist, creativity and judgement. Azazello and Korov′ev-Fagot are integral to an eschatological reading of the text, with Korov′ev in particular suggesting new areas of Faustian influence within The Master and Margarita. Azazello’s relevance to the novel is discussed in terms of his relationship with another of Bulgakov’s characters: the demon Abaddon. Through an examination of the biblical, literary and mythological development of the myth of the Azazel-figure throughout history, Mason argues a thematic, and perhaps even more tangible, connection between the two characters. In the context of Bulgakov’s novel, it is argued, Azazello and Abaddon are interrelated, and it is this relationship that sheds new light on the thematic importance of either character to The Master and Margarita. -

TOTBL Temple of the Black Light (TOTBL) is an international temple dedicated to the Current 218 and its Anti-Cosmic Tradition of Luciferianism/Satanism. The Temple is a manifestation of, and expression for, the adversarial, acosmic forces of the Nightside, and represents a new, wrathful form of Gnostic Left Hand Path. The tradition represented by the TOTBL can best be described as the essence of Anti-Cosmic Gnosticism expressed through the sinister forms of traditional Diabolism. Within our tradition, the Dark Ones (Gods and Goddesses of Sitra Ahra) represent the anti-archonic impulse of the Deus Absconditus and the manifested aspect of the second and left emanation from the Ain Sof. Thus, for us, Satan-Lucifer is the first and highest manifestation of the Black Light, and the opposer and destroyer of the cosmic prison/causal structures established by the tyrant demiurge. Within the TOTBL many forms of magical systems are studied and practiced, parallel to each other, as it is our conviction that the keys that will unlock the prison gates of the cosmic archons are spread throughout many different esoteric traditions. Our main goal is therefore to rediscover, remanifest, adapt and create the antinomian forms of spiritual practice that will lead the adept to Gnosis, hastening the revolution back towards the Unbound Fullness that was before the ordering of Chaos and the fall into causality. The high magical and spiritual practice within the TOTBL is thus shaped in a way that will lead the initiate to a concrete and direct encounter with the Divine within and without. The forms most often used and focused upon within our ritual work are those belonging to Kliffotic (Qliphothic) ceremonial magic and grimoire based demonology. -
