Our last review was over 10 years ago. This document profiles the clinical focus of individual psychologists and their professional practice contributions over the past 4 years (2010-2013). Professional practice of psychology is organizationally positioned within the Professional Practice portfolio led by Debbie McDougall, Director of Professional Practice and Dr. Becky Palmer, VP Professional Practice, Learning & Development, Research, Ethics and Chief of Nursing. Our practice and service delivery occurs within a mixed model of program and profession management. Psychologists are operationally deployed to diverse programs at Sunny Hill, Mental Health and Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. Medical Psychologists are now fully un-deployed at BC Children’s Hospital to support a more equitable reconfiguration of service delivery. Assessment, diagnosis, consultation and therapy define our primary practice and service to the organization. The scope of our training and practice allows us to be responsive to the individual needs of children, youth and their families within the mandate of programs, clinics, teams and units. Psychologists spend the majority of their time providing evidence-based ‘face to face’ sub-specialty therapy or assessment. Our non-direct, but equally important patient care activities include follow up documentation for eligibility of services or funding, and both consultation and coordination of care with our teams and community providers. Our scientist-practitioner training is formally recognized through a small number of positions with dedicated research time. Many of our psychologists provide consultation to research groups on campus but also integrate research design into the delivery of clinical service in order to generate the ‘evidence’ that constitutes evidence-based practice. We are committed to sharing our knowledge and building capacity through sub-specialty post-doctoral fellowships, our PhD resident training program, master’s level practicum placements, and formal academic teaching of graduate students, medical residents and fellows. Within our integrated teams and available resources, we are dedicated to providing the best possible care to the children and families of BC. Looking ahead we welcome the opportunity to quantify the quality of our professional practice and the meaningful outcomes for the children we serve. February 2014 Dr Theresa Newlove, R.Psych. He works with the medical psychologists in the hospital, caring for children with a variety of health issues, mostly children with epilepsy or other neurological conditions. Sometimes children meet Fraser when they come for an outpatient appointment with a psychologist. Other times, Fraser visits with patients when they are staying in the hospital. No matter the location, Fraser works along side the hospital’s psychologists, providing comfort, breaking down barriers, and facilitating healing with his wagging tail and gentle demeanour. 1 PSYCHOLOGY REVIEW 2010-2013 PSYCHOLOGY STAFF Anita Connolly Anita has worked Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children since 1996. She has worked as the secretary for Sunny Hill Psychology since 2008. The combination of Anita's excellent organizational capacity and unique humour keeps everything running smoothly for the Psychologists at SHHC.
