Our last review was over 10 years ago. This document profiles the clinical focus of individual psychologists and their professional practice contributions over the past 4 years (2010-2013). Professional practice of psychology is organizationally positioned within the Professional Practice portfolio led by Debbie McDougall, Director of Professional Practice and Dr. Becky Palmer, VP Professional Practice, Learning & Development, Research, Ethics and Chief of Nursing. Our practice and service delivery occurs within a mixed model of program and profession management. Psychologists are operationally deployed to diverse programs at Sunny Hill, Mental Health and Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. Medical Psychologists are now fully un-deployed at BC Children’s Hospital to support a more equitable reconfiguration of service delivery. Assessment, diagnosis, consultation and therapy define our primary practice and service to the organization. The scope of our training and practice allows us to be responsive to the individual needs of children, youth and their families within the mandate of programs, clinics, teams and units. Psychologists spend the majority of their time providing evidence-based ‘face to face’ sub-specialty therapy or assessment. Our non-direct, but equally important patient care activities include follow up documentation for eligibility of services or funding, and both consultation and coordination of care with our teams and community providers. Our scientist-practitioner training is formally recognized through a small number of positions with dedicated research time. Many of our psychologists provide consultation to research groups on campus but also integrate research design into the delivery of clinical service in order to generate the ‘evidence’ that constitutes evidence-based practice. We are committed to sharing our knowledge and building capacity through sub-specialty post-doctoral fellowships, our PhD resident training program, master’s level practicum placements, and formal academic teaching of graduate students, medical residents and fellows. Within our integrated teams and available resources, we are dedicated to providing the best possible care to the children and families of BC. Looking ahead we welcome the opportunity to quantify the quality of our professional practice and the meaningful outcomes for the children we serve. February 2014 Dr Theresa Newlove, R.Psych. Head, Department of Psychology Adjunct Professor, UBC, Department of Psychology PSYCHOLOGY REVIEW 2010-2013 PSYCHOLOGY STAFF PSYCHOLOGY STAFF ADMINISTRATION Anita Connolly Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children Serena Gill BC Children’s Hospital Shinder Sidhu BC Children’s Hospital (Retired in 2012) RECEPTION June Cook BC Children’s Hospital (Current) Jasdeep Lashar BC Children’s Hospital (Former) Vickie Lepore BC Children’s Hospital (Former) THERAPY SUPPORT Fraser BRIEF BIOGRAPHIES Fraser Fraser has been a member of the Department of Psychology at BC Children’s Hospital for more than four and a half years. He works with the medical psychologists in the hospital, caring for children with a variety of health issues, mostly children with epilepsy or other neurological conditions. Sometimes children meet Fraser when they come for an outpatient appointment with a psychologist. Other times, Fraser visits with patients when they are staying in the hospital. No matter the location, Fraser works along side the hospital’s psychologists, providing comfort, breaking down barriers, and facilitating healing with his wagging tail and gentle demeanour. 1 PSYCHOLOGY REVIEW 2010-2013 PSYCHOLOGY STAFF Anita Connolly Anita has worked Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children since 1996. She has worked as the secretary for Sunny Hill Psychology since 2008. The combination of Anita's excellent organizational capacity and unique humour keeps everything running smoothly for the Psychologists at SHHC. • Perceptions of the Authenticity of Food: a Study of Residents in Dorset (UK)
Perceptions of the authenticity of food: a study of residents in Dorset (UK) Sean Christopher Beer A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of Bournemouth University for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy October 2015 Bournemouth University Abstract In this thesis I critically explore the relationship between authenticity, the individual, society and the food consumed within that society for a group of residents in Dorset in the United Kingdom. The authenticity of food impacts on our understandings of the economic, social, political and environmental contexts of food and is worthy of research. As such I focused on my participants’ perceptions of the authenticity of food as something a priori; as it was perceived before other considerations, in ordered to get a primary understanding of the subject. I have positioned myself as a reflexive explorer / researcher who views the world from the position of interpretive constructionism derived from the ideas of postmodernism. I have utilized a qualitative research strategy; phenomenology and more specifically Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). My explanation of the methodology is accompanied by a description of the philosophical underpinning to the work with specific reference to Husserl, Heidegger, Gadamer, Levinas and Derrida. Data were collected using focus groups based around a meal. When I asked my focus group participants about their perspectives on the nature of the authenticity of food, they described understandings that were vested in four key areas: Family and friends; Saucing: cooking and flavour; Sourcing: where does it come from? and; Interaction with the distinctly other (people that were not friends and family). In terms of the discussion of family and friends, much of this was to do with their experiences of growing up and their relationships with their parents and grandparents.

By the time Wai was in television, he had already started writing screenplays for films. His early works include Young Cops (1985), Easy Money (1987), The Story of My Son (1990), and Gun n’ Rose (1992). He was invited by Chow Yun-fat in 1993 to make his directorial debut, Peace Hotel (1995), which starred Chow himself. • From the Masculine to the Feminine Eunuch Images in Hong Kong
From the Masculine to the Feminine Eunuch Images in Hong Kong Wuxia Films from the 1960s to the early 2010s Shanshan Song A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Chinese The University of Canterbury 2016 Abstract The eunuch characters, representing a classic type of villain, usually feature strongly in Chinese audiences’ memories about Hong Kong cinema, especially the wuxia genre during its glorious days in the twentieth century. They were created and stereotyped in Hong Kong cinema, developing with every rise and fall of Hong Kong wuxia genre, and varying at every crucial moment of the modern history of Hong Kong. In the light of not only western gender and culture theories in regard to the concepts of masculine and feminine, but also Chinese philosophies in terms of yin and yang in particular, this thesis sets out to explore the evolution of the gender and cultural presentation of eunuch images in Hong Kong wuxia films from the 1960s to the early 2010s. With the aid of Jean Baudrillard and Judith Butler’s theories, the two terms masculine and feminine will be argued as being not simply effective in gender representation, but also valid in outlining the logical mechanism which governs the organisation of the cultural phenomena. Meantime, Michel Foucault and Laura Mulvey’s findings about the relationship between power and gaze will be employed to anatomise the specific case of culture construction. The exploration of eunuch images will be intertwined with the examination of the Hong Kong cultural identity not only in the interactive triangle relationship between Hong Kong, Britain and China before 1997, but also in an interdependent Hong Kong-mainland connection in the post-colonial situation.
