Ans- Don Quixote was a fifty year old named Mr. Quixana. He wanted to be a knight. He got the idea from all the books about knights that he read. Q3. What preparations did he make to fulfil his ambition? Ans- In order to become a knight , he wore armour changed his name from Quixana to Don Quixote, named his horse ' Rocinante ' and employed a poor labourer called Sancho Panza his squire. Q4. What did Don Quixote promise Sancho? How did Sancho react? Ans- Don Quixote promised Sancho that he would conquer an Island and make Sancho its Governor. Sancho was very pleased to hear the promise and thanked Don Quixote. After thinking it over for a little while, he asked the knight to conquer a large island for him. Q5. Don Quixote thought the windmills were giants. How do the two compare? Ans- Giants are much bigger than human beings and so are the windmills; they are similar in size. Don Quixote had read that giants had very long arms, sometimes as long as two miles. The windmills also had long arms as Don Quixote saw it. However, those arms were actually their sails. Q6. What was the outcome of the attack on the windmill? Ans- Don Quixote charged at the windmill with his lance. The lance was thrust into one of the windmill's sails. But as the sail kept rotating, it carried the lance with it and broke it. Don Quixote and his horse were thrown down to the ground. Q7. How did Don Quixote explain his foolishness? Ans- Don Quixote said that the wicked magician, Freston had turned the giants into windmills. Think and answer Q1. Do you like Don Quixote? Why? Ans- I do not like Don Quixote. I do not believe Don Quixote was a bad man as when he chose to become a knight , he wanted to do honourable deeds but his brain was addled from lack of sleep, so basically , he was a mad man. Even though he means well when he tries to fight the giants, the only results of his actions is that a sail is torn and his lance is broken. Q2. Do you think Don Quixote was a good man who wanted to defend people in trouble? Give reasons. Ans- Yes, I do believe that Don Quixote was a good man. All the stories of knights that he had read had inspired him to become a virtuous knight himself. He wanted to conquer an island only to make his squire its Governor and he wanted to fight the giants because they were dangerous to humans. .
