Through this process all students may become responsible and contributing members of society. District Profile Arvin is located in the southern Central Valley of California at the base of Bear Mountain. Our district has a growing population of approximately 3200 students (Spring, 2006). We have four schools: Arvin State Preschool, Sierra Vista Elementary (Kindergarten-5th Grades), Bear Mountain Elementary (Kindergarten-5th Grades), and Haven Drive Middle School (6th-8th Grades). Our 4th school, El Camino Real Elementary School, is under construction and scheduled to open in August 2007. We also have a very active Migrant Education program, offering both Saturday School and an after school program. In addition, our widely-recognized Family Resource Center offers the Arvin Advantage program (after school program), and CBET classes. District Profile Beardsley School District traces its origins back to the late 1800’s when Lewis A. Beardsley donated an acre of land and helped build a one-room schoolhouse in May of 1882. Mr. Beardsley was a former teacher and principal at Bakersfield School and served as Kern County Superintendent of Schools from 1874-77. Following his county superintendence, he went into farming and later donated an acre of land to establish Beardsley School District. Beardsley School began with two teachers, Louis Beardsley and C.M. Chadwick with an average daily attendance of 25 students. In 1883, Alexander B. MacPherson was added to the staff. Mr. MacPherson also served as Kern County Superintendent of Schools from 1883. In 2005 Beardsley built its first new school in over 50 years. San Lauren Elementary was opened with classes from Kindergarten to 6th grade. Beardsley has a rich history of improving educational programs for children. This achievement is a result of community support and a commitment to educational excellence. District Profile Historically Belridge Elementary School has a population of approximately 60 students and a certificated staff of 5 teachers. Since its opening, the school has enjoyed strong parent and community support. Belridge is a rural K-8 district in Kern County, and has been educating children on the west side since the early 1900's. The school population is approximately 50 percent Hispanic and 50 percent Anglo. This district is focused on the whole student; therefore, staff and volunteers must create within the classroom and campus, a safe and orderly environment conductive to learning and maturing. District Profile Blake Elementary School is located in the small ranching community of Woody, California, approximately 35 miles from Bakersfield. This historic school services Kindergarten through Eighth grade students, in which the students are instructed in a K-8 grade, self-contained, one room schoolhouse. The school currently serves 10 students, 5 girls and 5 boys. The Blake School District is one of the smallest school districts in the state of California. The Blake School District employs one credentialed teacher/principal, one part-time instructional aide, one part-time secretary and one part-time custodian. Blake Elementary school receives Administration services and Speech/language services, which are contracted through Kern County Superintendent of Schools. The Blake School District Board consists of three board members from our Woody community. The instructional day begins at 8:00 am, and ends at 3:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, the day begins at 8:00 am, and ends at 1:00 pm. The school district has a resource room/computer room, which has a total of 6 student computers, all with internet access. For students who are at high risk, tutoring is available, as well as, small group workshops. Blake school is committed to laying a firm educational foundation for each and every student. Buttonwillow, CA 93206-9726 Phone (661) 764-5166 1 Elementary School Enrollment 380 Buttonwillow School fosters a positive learning environment, mainly through the individual attention afforded students through small class size, dedicated faculty, bilingual instructional aide staff, cooperative parents, and a caring community. Buttonwillow School strives to provide students with the advantages that are common to small schools. The school provides small class sizes from kindergarten through eighth grade. The school wide class size average is 20.63 students which allows teachers to give more time and attention to students to meet their individual needs. Through categorical program funding, the school has on staff seven bilingual instructional aides to assist teachers and support students in the classroom. Two additional aides work part-time to assist with campus supervision during the busy lunch periods. Caliente Union Elementary School District 12400 Caliente Creek Rd. District Profile The Caliente Union School District was formed effective July 1, 1962. It covers a large, sparsely populated territory which includes the foothills, canyons, and southern slopes of two of Kern County's highest peaks, Breckenridge Mountain and Piute Peak. The Caliente and Twin Oaks school districts joined due to a declining enrollment in both schools. There was 100 percent signup in both communities asking for unionization and the vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the union. The Caliente Union School is situated on a mesa just above the little railroad community of Caliente. Caliente School was built in 1950.
