Before moving to London he worked in continuity for a number of features including BABE 2, and as Second Unit Director on the Australian television series, BIG SKY. He also directed two Writers' Studios at the Australian National Playwrights' Centre (1995 & 1996).He and his wife Cate Blanchett made the short film BANGERS together, and set up a production company, Dirty Films, to develop feature projects.     Media Release For immediate release Bryan Brown to receive Australia’s highest screen accolade Today, the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) announced that one of Australia’s most admired and respected actors, Bryan Brown, will be honoured with the Australian Academy’s most prestigious award – the Longford Lyell Award. The Award will be presented to Bryan at the 2018 AACTA Awards Ceremony presented by Foxtel on Wednesday 5 December at The Star Event Centre in Sydney, telecast at 8:30pm on Channel 7. First presented in 1968, the Longford Lyell Award honours Australian film pioneer Raymond Longford and his partner in filmmaking and life, Lottie Lyell. The Award is the highest honour that the Australian Academy can bestow upon an individual and recognises a person who has made a truly outstanding contribution to the enrichment of Australia’s screen environment and culture. “It's an honour - thank you to the Academy,” said Bryan Brown. “I'm an Australian telling Australian stories and I love it.” Brown first debuted on screen in 1975 as a policeman in SCOBIE MALONE, delivering just two lines. He went on to cut his teeth with some of Australia’s leading directors, with supporting roles throughout 1978 in films such as Fred Schepisi’s THE CHANT OF JIMMIE BLACKSMITH, Bruce Beresford’s MONEY MOVERS and Phillip Noyce’s NEWSFRONT, before taking on leading roles in Donald Crombie’s CATHY’S CHILD (1979) and Albie Thoms’ PALM BEACH (1980).     1 Robert Lepage’s Scenographic Dramaturgy: The Aesthetic Signature at Work Melissa Poll Abstract Heir to the écriture scénique introduced by theatre’s modern movement, director Robert Lepage’s scenography is his entry point when re-envisioning an extant text. Due to widespread interest in the Québécois auteur’s devised offerings, however, Lepage’s highly visual interpretations of canonical works remain largely neglected in current scholarship. My paper seeks to address this gap, theorizing Lepage’s approach as a three-pronged ‘scenographic dramaturgy’, composed of historical-spatial mapping, metamorphous space and kinetic bodies. By referencing a range of Lepage’s extant text productions and aligning elements of his work to historical and contemporary models of scenography-driven performance, this project will detail how the three components of Lepage’s scenographic dramaturgy ‘write’ meaning-making performance texts. Historical-Spatial Mapping as the foundation for Lepage’s Scenographic Dramaturgy In itself, Lepage’s reliance on evocative scenography is inline with the aesthetics of various theatre-makers. Examples range from Appia and Craig’s early experiments summoning atmosphere through lighting and minimalist sets to Penny Woolcock’s English National Opera production of John Adams’s Dr. Atomic1 which uses digital projections and film clips to revisit the circumstances leading up to Little Boy’s release on Hiroshima in 1945. Other artists known for a signature visual approach to locating narrative include Simon McBurney, who incorporates digital projections to present Moscow via a Google Maps perspective in Complicité’s The Master and Margarita and auteur Benedict Andrews, whose recent production of Three Sisters sees Chekhov’s heroines stranded on a mound of dirt at the play’s conclusion, an apt metaphor for their dreary futures in provincial Russia.

    Tail voice over: After Maurice has shot his wife Ida, he heads up the hill to his dying wife. He holds her in his arms and sobs as she dies. Jacob gets Ronnie out of the vehicle and pushes the flat bed Toyota upright. Maurice grabs a shovel and begins to dig a grave for his wife. Jacob carries Ronnie to the truck, and they drive off into the darkness, while Maurice begins the job of digging a hole, pausing to watch the Toyota disappear into the night. Then the image cuts to Maurice sitting on the verandah of his home in pre-dawn light, at first in close up. As his voice over unfolds, the camera pulls back to offer a wide shot of him on the verandah : Maurice (v/o): “Some nights I sit here and talk and stare, and stay out until the break of day …waiting, hoping. There’s been no blue lights, no detectives, no sign of Jacob or Ronnie or her musician boyfriend … and it’s been almost a year… (A kookaburra begins to sound over a wide shot of the dawn light falling on the pasture and the bush). … Sometimes I see a shadow … (ECU of his eyes) …between the trees. But I know to leave these things alone now …(back to a wide shot of him on the verandah, now with dawn light on it) …I make my confession, wait for redemption …or punishment …(a shot of the sun rising over a distant hill, bathing the screen in a yellow hazy glow) …but there’s only the sun rise … Music swells, fade to black, and end credits begin to roll ..
