ABRUZZO, BORGHI AND TRABOCCHI COAST Day 1: Arrival - Pescara In the early afternoon, meeting of the participants with the local guide at the hotel and guided tour on foot of the city centre of Pescara, the city of Gabriele D'Annunzio. We will visit the Cathedral of San Cetteo, in the Abruzzese Romanesque style, personally financed by the writer and the exteriors of the writer's house, declared a national monument in 1927. To follow, the colourful and characteristic alleys of “Pescara Vecchia”: the neighbourhood, at every step, brings out the past glorious of a maritime city, which was one of the most important ports of the Roman era. To the end of the walk, free evening. Day 2: Atri Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Atri, a delightful town perched on a spur surrounded by oaks and olive trees. For its well-preserved historic centre, rich in monuments, stately palaces, museums, characteristic alleys and squares, adorned with plants and flowers (many times awarded by Italia Nostra, which has its headquarters in the city) has been declared a city to all intents and purposes of art. Visit to the cathedral dedicated to S. Maria Assunta, one of the most significant examples of medieval Abruzzo architecture, internally enriched by a remarkable decoration pictorial. Visit of the Capitular Museum, an ancient Benedictine-Cistercian monastery of the XII century, located close to the Cathedral, where a very noble cloister on three-sided and two-story. The afternoon is free and we recommend a visit to the Calanchi nature reserve, a splendid oasis WWF created to preserve about 600 hectares of nature, flora and fauna.

ABRUZZO : sea, religion and “macaroni eaters” 1st day: ARRIVAL - VASTO Arrival of the group in Vasto, check-in at the hotel. Lunch. Free afternoon to relax and enjoy the sea. 2nd day : VASTO Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with the guide and coach transfer for the guided visit of the city, which has a valuable city centre. You'll admire the Cathedral, rebuilt in the 19th century but with thirteenth-century elements such as the portal, the Castle, built in the 15th century and still dominating a part of the town with its powerful bulk. Among the several churches of Vasto, the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore is noteworthy: built in 1000, has a beautiful fourteenth-century bell tower. The interior is decorated with paintings of great value, attributed to Tiziano and Veronese, 16th – century Venetian artists. The archaeological site of the Roman baths is where a mosaic floor of great value has been found. Lunch at the hotel. Free atfternoon for leisure time activities. In the late afternoon, meeting with the guide and coach sightseeing tour of the “Trabocchi Coast”. The “trabucchi” or “trabocchi” are fishing machines built on daring piles that jut out into the sea. A thin bridge connects these "fishing machines " with the dry land. A web of piles props up a hut on the sea where, through a rudimentary yet effective system of piles and ties, the fisherman controls the fishing net. Dinner in restaurant in a local trabocco. Overnight stay at the hotel. 3rd day : VASTO – LANCIANO Breakfast at the hotel. Free morning to relax and enjoy the sea.

Manzari, Amparo Alpañés from Washington & Jefferson College, Angela Tumini from Columbia College Hollywood, together with Mirko Menna from Centro Europeo di Studi Rossettiani, came together to organize the third Bridges Across Cultures: An International Conference on Arts and Humanities. The conference was held at the historical Palazzo D’Avalos from June 11-14th, 2017. I owe debt of gratitude to Angela Tumini, Patrick Quinn and especially Michele Pharand for their hard work and dedication to editing these papers. The "Bridges" conference originated as a vision and an opportunity for academicians and professionals from various arts and humanities-related fields from all over the world to come together and learn from each other. Over the years, the conference has served as a meeting place for scholars and experts with interdisciplinary interests related to arts and humanities to interact with members within and outside of their own particular disciplines. It is my hope that the reader will be able to discover new and creative perspectives from which to study some traditional academic topics from the crossdisciplinary lens while reading the articles here presented. It is our wish to spark the reader's intellectual curiosity, and hopefully, to stimulate the reader to join in on the conversation.
