CRIMe BRIeFs Manslaughter case goes to trial FARMINGTON – A North Salt Lake man charged with manslaugh- ter in an auto-pedestrian accident that killed Kelly Allred in May 2014 rejected a plea deal and asked to proceed with a trial in 2nd District Court. Witnesses allege Jose Orozco, 36, was driving a white truck that left the scene of an auto-pedestrian accident at the intersection of 700 S. State St. in Clearfield. Police later arrested Orozco in North Salt Lake. He is currently in the Davis County Jail. The trial has been set for July 13 to July 16 in the Layton 2nd District Court.

Driver hits three police cars during chase BOUNTIFUL – A suspected drunken driver left three police cars damaged in his wake during a chase that started in Bountiful and ended in South Weber. Jeffrey Lawrence Nelson, 42, was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of assault against a police officer, aggravated assault, driving under the influence, failure to stop at an officer’s command, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, reckless driving and criminal mischief. Nelson allegedly rammed into the officer’s car when the officer attempted to pull him over Sunday. He continued on, said the report, hitting another police car when officers tried to stop him. The chase continued onto I-15 where Nelson’s speed allegedly topped 90 mph. He managed to avoid spike strips, and rammed another officer in pursuit, according to police.
