Anania coronata (Hufnagel), a Holarctic species of pyraustine crambid moth, has long been treated as having two geographically separated subspecies – the nominotypical Anania coronata in the Palaearctic Region and Anania coronata tertialis (Guenee)´ in the Nearctic Region. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analysis of mitochondrial DNA barcodes both recover four well-supported, reciprocally monophyletic groups within Anania coronata. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of genital structures reveal diagnostic differences that correspond to the four barcode lineages. On the basis of both molecular and morphological evidence, we conclude that Anania coronata is actually a complex of four species. -

SEAL1 1Tropical Research and Education Center, University of Florida/IFAS, 18905 SW 280th St., Homestead, FL 33031 ADDITIONAL INDEX WORDS. armyworm, sweet corn, management, insecticides Studies were conducted in 2016, 2017, and 2018 to determine effectiveness of various insect management programs for managing fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (FAW) in tomato fields in South Florida. In the first study, Spear-C alone or in combination with Bacillus thuringiensis provided effective control of FAW and significantly reduced FAW feeding damage. In the second study, the effectiveness of Novaluron® in controlling FAW was comparable to Radi- ant®. All rates of Novaluron® (6, 9, and 12 oz/acre) provided significant reduction of FAW. In the third study, both Novaluron® and Warrior® suppressed FAW. In the fourth study, Dimilin® and different formulations of diflubenzuron effectively reduced FAW as compared to the control. Fawligen®, a fungal based product, was also effective in con- trolling FAW. In the fifth study, Radiant®applied in a weekly rotation program with Intrepid® performed as well as Radiant® alone, indicating an effective program to control FAW and to manage the development of resistance. In the sixth study, Movento®, Sivanto®, and CX-2130 were effective in reducing FAW as compared to the control. Sivanto® and CX-2130 were the most effective insecticides in this study. The use of effective insecticides applied in a rotation program might prove effective against FAW, saving millions of dollars for the sweet corn industry in Florida. -

An annotated host catalogue is given for the Tachinidae ofthe Czech Republic. It comprises 149 of476 tachinid species which are currently known from this coun- try (included the two new records cited below). 195 hosts are listed. The first host records ofTachinidae date back to the second halfofthe 19th century. The bibli- ography for the host records consists of 1 16 papers of 55 researchers. Several re- cords of hitherto unpublished material are included. Phryxe setifacies and Anthomyiopsis plagioderae are first records for the Czech Republic. J. With some types of tobacco it is desirable that all of the plants in a field ripen at about the same time. In such cases cutworm damage at trans- plajiting time may be unusually important. -

However, collections in the Entomology Museum of Michigan State University (MSU), East Lansing, and in the Museum of Zoology of the University of Michigan (UMMZ), Ann Arbor, indicate that collecting has been extensive throughout the state (Fig. 1). The key and annotated list are based on material I identified in these two collections. -

Lenhard, Louisiana State University, Bugwood.org Common Name: Spined soldier bug Scientific Name: Podisus maculiventris Order and Family: Hemiptera; Pentatomidae Size and Appearance: Length (mm) Appearance Egg 1 mm Around the operculum (lid/covering) on the egg there are long projections; eggs laid in numbers of 17 -70 in oval masses; cream to black in color. Larva/Nymph 1.3 – 10 mm 1st and 2nd instars: black head and thorax; reddish abdomen; black dorsal and lateral plates. Younger instars are gregarious; cannibalistic. 3rd instar: black head and thorax; reddish abdomen with black, orange, and white bar-shaped and lateral markings 4th instar: similar to 3rd instar; wing pads noticeable 5th instar: prominent wing pads; mottled brown head and thorax; white or tan and black markings on abdomen. Adult 11 mm Spine on each shoulder; mottled brown body color; females larger than males; 2 blackish dots at the 3rd apical (tip) of each hind femur; 1-3 generations a year. Pupa (if applicable) Type of feeder (Chewing, sucking, etc.): Nymph and adult: Piercing-sucking Host/s: Spined soldier bugs are predators and feed on many species of insects including the larval stage of beetles and moths. These insects are found on many different crops including alfalfa, soybeans, and fruit. Some important pest insect larvae prey include Mexican bean beetle larvae, European corn borer, imported cabbageworm, fall armyworm, corn earworm, and Colorado potato beetle larvae. If there is not enough prey, the spined soldier bug may feed on plant juices, but this does not damage the plant. -

Russo Abstract This study summarises the known records of the Macrolepidoptera species of the “Bosco Palazzi” area near the municipality of Putignano (Apulia region) in the Murgia mountains in southern Italy. The list of species is based on historical bibliographic data along with new material collected by other entomologists in the last few decades. A total of 207 species belonging to the families Cossidae (3 species), Drepanidae (4 species), Lasiocampidae (7 species), Limacodidae (1 species), Saturniidae (2 species), Sphingidae (5 species), Brahmaeidae (1 species), Geometridae (55 species), Notodontidae (5 species), Nolidae (3 species), Euteliidae (1 species), Noctuidae (96 species), and Erebidae (24 species) were identified. -

(Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) was measured in the laboratory. Both nymphal and adult predators displayed high predation rates on eggs, nymphs and adults of the southern green stinkbug. However, developmental times of fourth instar P. maculiven- tris on eggs or nymphal instars of N. viridula were longer than on fifth instars of the cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis (Boisduval) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), suggesting that N. viridula is suboptimal prey for the spined soldier bug. Preference experiments in which fourth instar P. maculiventris were given a choice between fourth instars of N. viridula and fifth instars of S. littoralis indicated that the stinkbugs were less vulnerable to predation than the caterpillars, mainly because of their greater agility. The potential role of P. macu- liventris in augmentation or conservation biological control of the southern green stinkbug in greenhouse and field crops is discussed.
