The Anglo Saxons were immigrants (see the map to know where they came from) and made up of three tribes: the Angles, Saxons and Jutes. Seven major kingdoms were carved out of conquered areas: Northumbria, East Anglia, Essex, Sus- sex, Kent, Wessex and Mercia. Religion changed a lot throughout the Anglo-Saxon period. Many people were initially pagans and worshipped different gods who oversaw different things people did but changed over time to Christianity.
