The period after the Second World War is still very interesting for many Dutch train simmers. Not only because railway companies had to deal with the enormous damage left by the war years, but it was also a period of renewal and expansion. Apart from the disappearance of the steam locomotive, which is still regretted by many hobbyists, many new types of equipment made their appearance at NS in the fifties, surrounded by a lot of publicity. Following the establishment of the EEC in 1956, major European railway companies supported the initiative of the Dutch Railways (NS) to create a network of fast international connections under the name Trans Europ Express (TEE). The NS and the Swiss SBB / CFF then joined forces to build rolling stock for the Amsterdam-Zurich relationship. The four-part trainset that is the subject of this release was the result, with the Swiss industry (SIG and BBC) responsible for the two coaches and the driving trailer, while the Dutch Werkspoor NV constructed the engine unit. In 1957, the introduction of the Dutch-Swiss TEE at home and abroad attracted a striking amount of interest. Still, more than half a century later, this train is far from being forgotten. Two driving trailers and three coaches have even been saved from the cutter's torch, awaiting a full restoration. Unfortunately, the financial resources of the initiators have been insufficient to bring this expensive project to a successful conclusion. Known for its fast train connections between important European cities such as the Edelweiss (Amsterdam-Zürich and vice versa), the TEE ©2021 TrainworX/Wilbur Graphics, all rights reserved Release Version 1.0 3 Train Simulator – SBB/NS Ram TEE lives on not only in the memory of railway enthusiasts, but also in the minds of numerous railway modellists. Well-known manufacturers such as Roco and Märklin have produced a number of releases of this model over the years. Even this year (2020), the latter have taken a new version of this bestseller in production. • European Train Names: a Historic Outline Christian Weyers
ONOMÀSTICA BIBLIOTECA TÈCNICA DE POLÍTICA LINGÜÍSTICA European Train Names: a Historic Outline* Christian Weyers DOI: 10.2436/15.8040.01.201 Abstract This paper gives a first overview of the onomastic category of train names, searches to classify the corpus and reviews different stages of their productivity. Apart from geographical names (toponyms, choronyms, compass directions) generally indicating points of origin and destination of the trains in question, a considerable number of personal names have entered this category, of classical literary authors, musicians and scientists, but also of many fictional or non-fictional characters taken from literature or legendary traditions. In some cases also certain symbolic attributes of these persons and finally even heraldic figures have given their names to trains. In terms of their functionality, train names originally were an indicator of exclusiveness and high grade of travel quality, but they developed gradually, as they dispersed over the European continent, into a rather unspecific, generalized appellation, also for regional and local trains. After two periods of prosperity after 1950, the privatisation of railway companies starting in the 1990s had again a very positive effect on the category, as the number of named trains initially reached a new record in this decade. ***** The first train names appeared in England in the 1860s in addition to names for steam locomotives, and on two different levels. The Special Scotch Express between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh (inaugurated in 1862) was called by the public The Flying Scotsman from the 1870s, but it succeeded as the official name not before 1924. Also the names of the German diesel trainsets Der Fliegende Hamburger and Der Fliegende Kölner were colloquial name creations, as were the Train Bleu and the Settebello operated from 1922 and 1953 but officially named in 1947 and 1958, respectively.

The History of St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church HISTORY OF ST. CHRYSOSTOM’S CHURCH CHAPTER 1 Thaddeus A. Snively: First Years of the Parish, 1893-1907 Sunday, January 15, 1893. "CROWDED AND COLD. Marked Characteristics of Nearly All Street-Cars," read the lead story in that day's Chicago Tribune. "TRIALS OF WEST-SIDERS. The Early Morning Service Declared To Be Wretched. NORTH SIDE NO BETTER OFF. Even the South Side Lines Are Said To Be Falling from Grace." The poor service must have been a particular hardship during the previous days; a cold spell had gripped the city and the entire eastern third of the country for most of the preceding week, with Chicago temperatures reaching -12 by midnight on the 14th (they would drop to -16 for several hours early Sunday morning before moderating later in the day). Chicagoans suffering from the extreme weather could plan to purchase on the following day, according to their budgets, real mink capes at $25.00, astrakhan fur reefers at $20.00 or military ulsters at $7.50 from Schlesinger and Mayer's at the southeast corner of State and Madison Streets; men's winter underwear at $1.25 and 49c could be bought at the Hub on the northwest corner of State and Jackson. (Those persons preferring to shop at Marshall Field's would have had to wait a day to see what was available, since Field's did not at that time advertise on Sundays.) Much news space was devoted to the forthcoming World's Columbian Exposition: a gang of French crooks with plans to "work the Fair" had just been arrested, and an article by Caroline S.
