WSU Retiree Center Fall 2009 Senior University Preview Fall 2009 WSU Retiree Center 1st floor of the Alumni House WSU Senior University is one of the many ongoing projects of WSU Retiree 227 W. Wabasha St. Center and brings to the entire Winona community an opportunity to enjoy college level classes, taught by retired faculty and other knowledgeable individuals, at low Winona State University cost in stress free environments. Pat Tolmie Charles Zane -- Sally Sloan, Steering Committee University EDUCATION - SERVICE - SOCIAL 2009 HOMECOMING – GRAND MARSHALLS WSU Alumna and Retiree, Gloria Miller and WSU Professor Emeritus and Retiree, Randy Miller, are Winona State University’s 2009 Homecoming Grand Marshalls. Gloria served WSU as Director of Alumni Affairs from 1986 to 2002. She was an active member of the Winona community and served terms as president of United Way of Winona and president of the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In 2001, the Winona Chamber of Commerce’s Women In Business Committee honored Gloria with the Athena Award, recognizing her as an outstanding woman in the community for exceptional service. Randy served WSU from 1974 to 2006, in the areas of Clinical Exercise Physiology and Methods of Rehabilitation in Special Populations. Randy retired as the Chairsperson of the Department of Health, Exercise, and Rehabilitative Sciences. Also an active member of the community, Randy served as President and board member for the Winona County Heart Association and the Developmental Achivement Center. Randy & Gloria Miller attending Gloria and Randy currently reside in Milliken, CO by family and Grand Opening honoring Randy, continue their support of Winona State University with visits to WSU Retiree Center, 2006 Winona and attending Alumni Events in Colorado. Congratulations to them for being WSU Grand Marshalls, 2009 Homecoming. JUST A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR ... and summer comes to a close. Each of us has the academic year ingrained in our “clock” and the recent retirees will be experiencing for the first time the beginning of the academic year without the usual preparations, meetings, and events. This year for them will be filled with reminiscence and new plans for August. It still remains a ‘beginning’ of the year for all of us. Congratulations to our WSU Retirees being honored during 2009 Homecoming. Senior University is returning for its second semester (fall 09) – check out the classes, let us know what you are looking for – if you don’t see it this semester, we can plan for the future… share your ideas. Success has been due to our dedicated instructors and their commitment to teaching community Learners. Sign up this fall and learn something new. Volunteer opportunities are available on campus. Retirees are needed to assist Registrar’s in preserving the 100+ year old student records with scanning equipment. Sound interesting? The Library Archives’ photo section needs help identifying people in photos… your history with the university is valuable. The Living History Project – the student documentaries and oral histories of WSU Retirees will be presented spring semester this year. Watch for the premiere in April 2010.
