Farewell: Audi RS 5 DTM Breaks Numerous Records
Audi MediaInfo Motorsport Communications Virginia Brusch Phone: +49 151 52817968 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi-mediacenter.com/en Farewell: Audi RS 5 DTM breaks numerous records • 28 victories, 95 podiums and six DTM championship titles in just two years • Audi RS 5 DTM dominates the Class 1 era with its TFSI technology • Specific consumption under full load improved by around ten percent Neuburg a. d. Donau, November 12, 2020 – 28 victories, 95 podiums, 29 pole positions, 28 fastest race laps and all six championship titles: The Audi RS 5 DTM, which completed its last race at the Hockenheimring last Sunday, has set numerous records in just two years. Thanks in part to its efficiency, it is one of the most successful race cars in the history of the DTM, which will be staged with GT3 cars from 2021. Due to the corona pandemic, 2020 was the most compact DTM season ever: There were only 100 days between the season opener at Spa and the finale at Hockenheim. In only 50 days and already six races before the end of the season, Audi won the manufacturers’ title – a record, possibly for eternity. With more than 610 hp, the four-cylinder turbo of the Audi RS 5 DTM was not only the most powerful engine in the company’s DTM history, but also the most efficient. Thanks to the combination of turbocharging with gasoline direct injection (TFSI), which is also widely used in series production at Audi, the specific consumption in the speed range under full load was improved by around ten percent compared to the old V8 engine, thus significantly reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. -

It’s been a year of both triumph and, unfortunately, tragedy and in this issue we take time out to remember María de Villota, whose passing in October left a deep void not just in motor sport but in all our hearts. María’s bravery following her F1 testing accident and the dedication she displayed afterwards – not only in promoting female involvement in motor sport but also safety on the road and track – will be missed. Elsewhere, it was a year of great success for women competitors and in this edition we look at Lucile Cypriano’s victory in the VW and commission-supported shoot-out for a place in next year’s VW Scirocco R-Cup and reveal how the FIA European Rallycross Championship has become a haven for female racers. It’s been a great year for CONTACTS: women in all forms of motor sport and IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER OR we look forward to even more in 2014! STORIES FOR THE NEXT ISSUE, WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU. -

The Sustainable Electric Motorsport of the 21St Century
EC8.19 October 4, 2019 To: Chair and Members of the Economic and Community Development Committee: Re: Exploring the potential opportunity of Toronto becoming a host city of Formula E: the sustainable electric motorsport of the 21st century Dear colleagues, I am writing to request that we explore the potential to bring FormulaE to the City of Toronto. Formula E was conceived in 2011 by FIA (International Automobile Federation) President and former Scuderia Ferrari General Manager Jean Todt and Spanish businessman Alejandro Agag as the world's first all-electric international car racing platform. The first race was held in Beijing's Olympic Park in 2014, and has grown into a global entertainment brand with 11 teams and 22 drivers. There are multiple major international corporate sponsors and 9 global automobile manufacturers are engaged; including Jaguar, Nissan, BMW, Audi, DS (Peugeot), and Mahindra. Formula E describes its venue metropolises as being the 'most progressive' cities in the world, and they include New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Seoul, Jakarta, Rome, and Mexico City, among others. Formula E markets itself as a cutting edge catalyst to propel the latest electric vehicle design and research work, as well as improving driving experiences for everyday car users of all classes and types, all while providing incredible entertainment. As the capital city of North America's top auto-producing region with over 2.2 million vehicles assembled in 2017, Toronto has long benefited from the economic activity, employment, and tax revenue generated by the automobile sector. Over 200 companies in southern Ontario are developing autonomous vehicle technology, with our automobile sector employing over 100,000, and generating almost 20% of manufacturing GDP. -
Audi Sport on Success Track
Communications Motorsport Jürgen Pippig Stefanie Höcker Telephone: +49 (0)841 89 34200 Telephone: +49 (0)841 89 38053 E-mail: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected] 8 October 2008 Audi Sport on success track • New Audi A4 DTM with impressive season tally • Chance for successful DTM title defence • Le Mans hat-trick and two champion’s titles for Audi R10 TDI Ingolstadt – In the hot phase of the 2008 motorsport season Audi again underlined their “Vorsprung durch Technik” last weekend with two victories linked to “Le Mans” – in the DTM and in the American Le Mans Series. In the year of the company’s most extensive motorsport programme ever the motorsport squad headed by Dr Wolfgang Ullrich thus has the chance to achieve a historically outstanding tally of success in the sport. Sunday, 5 October 2008, 3:13 p.m.: on a single weekend, Audi clinches two victories that are linked to the magic name of Le Mans. At the French “Circuit Bugatti”, at the tenth race of the DTM, Audi factory driver Mattias Ekström in the A4 DTM crosses the finish line in first place with a 4.25-second lead. The day before, Dindo Capello/Allan McNish/Emanuele Pirro in the Audi R10 TDI at the “Petit Le Mans” race at Road Atlanta in the U.S. state of Georgia have already clinched victory ahead of rival Peugeot after a remarkable recovery. The two events have notable parallels: in both cases Audi’s victories are associated with “Le Mans”, in both cases the respective main rival is defeated in a direct fight – in the DTM it is overall runner-up Paul di Resta in the Mercedes, in the ALMS it is Peugeot. -

René Rast: “I See My Future in the DTM”
Audi MediaInfo Motorsport Communications Virginia Brusch Tel: +49 151 52817968 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi -mediacenter.com/en René Rast: “I see my future in the DTM” • The 2019 DTM Champion in an extensive interview before the season’s finale Neuburg a. d. Donau, September 25, 2019 – Audi driver René Rast secured an early DTM title win in the season’s third from last race. In an extensive interview, the 2019 DTM Champion reveals why, in spite of his early success, fans should not miss the finale at Hockenheim on the first weekend in October, what records he is interested in, what the secret of his success is and how he spent the days following his title win. How does being a two-time DTM Champion feel? It’s a great feeling – and totally different from what I felt when I won my first DTM title in 2017. The title at that time came somewhat unexpectedly. The surprise was immense. This year, I was able to mentally prepare myself because I was touted as a favorite. Even so, it’s an awesome feeling. It’s one of the biggest motorsport moments in my life. When I entered the DTM I didn’t expect to clinch two titles within the space of three years. How was the party following your title win at the Nürburgring? It was one of the coolest parties I’ve seen at Audi Sport so far. We partied really hard at the Audi Hospitality until about three, three thirty in the morning. How did you spend the days after your title win? Fortunately, in a relatively quiet way. -
