Instagram Extreme E E l sueco Johan Kristoffersson y la australiana Molly Taylor (Rosberg Xtreme Racing) ganaron este domingo la final de la primera prueba del nuevo campeonato Extreme E, competencia para todoterrenos de propulsión eléctrica, celebrada en Arabia Saudita. Con un tiempo de 11:29, el binomio se llevó la primera victoria con una ventaja de 23.73 segundos sobre el sueco Timmy Hansen y la británica Catie Munnings (Andretti United Extreme E). El francés Sébastien Loeb y la española Cristina Gutiérrez (Team X44) pisaron el tercer escalón del podio, a 1:38.09 de los vencedores, lastrados por problemas en la dirección asistida de su coche. En la semifinal encontraron su techo los españoles Carlos Sainz y Laia Sanz, compañeros en el equipo Acciona Sainz XE. Tras su buena sesión de calificación del sábado no pudieron disputar la final en el desierto de Al-Ula. La Extreme E, creada por el español Alejandro Agag y el expiloto brasileño Gil de Ferran, es una competición que busca reunir a diez equipos formados por binomios mixtos que correrán en cinco localizaciones al rededor del mundo y que se han visto afectadas por el cambio climático. La idea es dar visibilidad a estas áreas dañadas y generar conciencia planetaria sobre este problema y, de paso, demostrar que se puede realizar competencias motor sin afectar el medio ambiente. La nueva categoría promueve, además, la igualdad de género con el mismo número de participantes masculinos y femeninos. Programa Tras la disputa de la prueba inaugural en Arabia Saudita, donde corrieron solo nueve equipos, el nuevo campeonato Extreme E viajará al Lago Rosa de Dakar, en Senegal, escenario del 29 al 30 de mayo de la segunda prueba. Posteriormente la caravana se desplazará al glaciar Russell, en Groenlandia (28-29 de agosto), a la Amazonía brasileña (23-24 de octubre) y a la Patagonia argentina, que pondrá fin al certamen los días 11 y 12 de diciembre. A la próxima carrera llegará como líder del campeonato el equipo Rosberg X Racing de Johan Kristoffersson y Molly Taylor, con los 35 puntos acumulados en Arabia Saudita. Sumaron 10 puntos en la sesión de calificación del sábado y 25 más con su triunfo en la gran final. Les siguen el X44 de Sébastien Loeb y Cristina Gutiérrez, con 30 unidades, y el Andretti United Extreme E de Timmy Hansen y Catie Munnings, con 28. Por su parte, Carlos Sainz y Laia Sanz, del equipo Acciona Sainz XE Team, sumaron 26 unidades. Los equipos Hispano Suiza Xite Energy (20), JBXE (17), ABT Cupra XE (13), Segi TV Chip Ganassi (12) y Veloce Racing (0) completan la clasificación del nuevo campeonato 'Extreme E' tras la prueba inaugural. Innovador formato de carrera La competencia de vehículos eléctricos cuenta con un innovador formato de carrera en la que, según explica la prensa internacional, todos los equipos deben competir en un Odyssey 21 E-SUV estándar. Motorsport detalló que para esta primera fecha el formato se basó en una clasificación que consistió en dos rondas de contrarreloj (cuyo orden de inicio se decidió por sorteo) el sábado. El domingo, los tres primeros de la clasificación pasaron a la semifinal, donde los dos mejores a dos vueltas tuvieron su espacio en la gran final. Cabe destacar, eso sí, que el formato fue cambiado para esta primera fecha debido al polvo que levantaron los vehículos en el desierto. En ese sentido, por ejemplo, tanto las semifinales y la final y tuvieron un máximo de tres participantes, en lugar de los cinco y cuatro que tenían previstos en condiciones normales. " En enero no había polvo debido a la humedad de la noche y la arena también estaba más húmeda. De ahí saldría una clasificación al final del día que daría con un paso a la semifinal a los cuatro primeros, "mientras que los cinco últimos pasarían a disputar la Crazy Race, una repesca que daría dos puestos para la final (los otros tres saldrían de los tres primeros de la semifinal)", señaló el medio. Se espera que este formato se retome en la siguiente fecha de la competencia que se realizará en Senegal a finales de mayo. .

Transition theory emphasizes that development of sustainable technologies such as EVs can be achieved within niches, which are protective spaces that shield sustainable technologies from mainstream market selection pressures. An interesting environment that has generally been known for innovative developments with regard to mobility has recently seen an increased usage of EVs. This environment is the motorsport. This paper therefore aims to identify the role that the electric motorsport as niche plays in the development of EVs for a transition towards a more sustainable mobility system. In order to fulfil this aim, a qualitative research approach was used where both semi-structured interviews and grey literature was analysed. The electrification of certain categories of the FIA World Rallycross Championship as well as the Extreme E were selected to exemplify the entire electric motorsport. The protective space conceptualisation of Smith and Raven (2012) that focuses on shielding, nurturing and empowering processes was used to conduct the analysis and describe the electric motorsport as a niche. The analysis showed that the electric motorsport as niche shows great capabilities of making contributions towards the development of EVs, but currently is not utilised to this potential.
