UNESCO NETWORK OF CREATIVE CITIES Context : UNESCO has announced that Mumbai and Hyderabad have been included in its network of 'Creative st Cities' on the occasion of World Cities Day 2019 (31 , October). More in the news: Mumbai has been designated as Creative City of Films and Hyderabad a Creative City of Gastronomy. Earlier,Chennai and Varanasi were included as UNESCO cities of music while Jaipur was included as the City of Crafts and Folk Arts. Significance : By joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), the cities pledge to share best practices and develop partnerships involving public and private sectors as well as civil society to strengthen the creation, production, and distribution of cultural activities. UNESCO Creative Cities Network(UCCN): The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) is a project of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO). It was launched in 2004 to promote cooperation among cities which recognized creativity as a major factor in their urban development. The network covers seven creative fields namely crafts and folk arts, media arts , film, Design, gastronomy, literature and music. By joining the Network, cities commit to sharing their best practices and developing partnerships involving the public and private sectors as well as civil society. Source :- PIB RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS Context : Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was observed on 31st October across the nation. It marks the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas : It was celebrated for the first time in 2014 with the aim to pay tribute to the ‗Iron man of India‘ by remembering his extraordinary works for the country. Several events are organized on this day like ‗Run For Unity‘-a nationwide marathon to increase awareness about the contribution of Sardar Patel to national integrity, National Unity pledge, etc. In 2018, the Government of India unveiled the ‗Statue of Unity‘ in Gujarat in the honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It is the tallest statue in the world. Source ;- PIB CHAVANG KUT FESTIVAL Context : Chavang Kut, the post-harvest festival of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo communities is being celebrated across North-Eastern states with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm. Chavang Kut : Chavang Kut or Kut festival is one of the most celebrated festivals of Manipur. It is also celebrated in Mizoram and Assam. The festival marks the Anglo-Kuki war centenary year. The festival is celebrated by the tribes of Kuki-Chin-Mizo communities.
