GREAT LITERATURE What kind of people are found on the ocean? Courageous men following other courageous men. And what about women? If the husband got very bad diarrhea, lying flat on his back, would his wife beg him to stay at home and postpone the journey, or would she stand up and say, "Well, come on. I'll take over! I'll continue the mission." If she has that much determination then even the boat's steering wheel will wake up and be happy to find a woman's soft hands on the wheel after being handled by so many men's rough hands. When you women take charge of the mission, then even the ocean waters will feel sorry for you. They don't want to be rough on such beautiful women; they want to be nice to you. Even the ocean spray raining down is smiling, and saying, "I want to cling onto your skirt!" (Great laughter) It's so poetic, isn't it? That's the way great literature and great poetry were born. When I start speaking about the ocean, there are many stories, legends, and myths to be told. Sometimes I speak to the birds and sometimes it's as if the birds are obeying whatever I am thinking, flying this way, or landing over there. And when I think, ''Now go away,'' the birds will suddenly depart! Literature is written in that form, expressing such commu nication with nature. Creation says to man, ''If you leave me yet still love me, I will go away from you." Man and the creation are just longing for each other, like the love between will swallow you!" A signifant contrast can be seen when compared with the SIFC building across the street, which is showing smooth progress with several stories up already. The City of Seoul reached an agreement in 2005 with an overseas financial institution to begin the construction of the SIFC on the city owned lot and designated Yeouido as a 'Global Financial Center' in February of this year. SIFC and Parc 1 function as essential landmarks of this international financial center. The 56 story SIFC and 72 story Parc 1 were destined to become the new skyscrapers of Seoul. The reason the construction stopped as of November, 2010 is the result of a dispute between the land owner and the superficiary. The original owner of the land is the “Support Foundation for the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity” (hereinafter referred to as the Unification Church Foundation), is the owner of this piece of land and signed a contract with Y22 Finance Investment in May of 2005, which gave Y22 a 99 year term for control over the superficies.

Unification Church of the United States From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Unification Church of the United States is a new religious movement in the United States of America. It began in the 1950s and 1960s when missionaries from Japan and South Korea were sent to the United States by the international Unification Church's founder and leader Sun Myung Moon. It expanded in the 1970s and then became involved in controversy due to its theology, its political activism, and the life style of its members. Since then it has been involved in many areas of American society and has itself gone through substantial changes. Among them were Young Oon Kim, Sang Ik-Choi, Bo Hi Pak, David S. C. Kim, and Yun Soo Lim. Missionary work took place in Washington D.C., New York, Oregon, and California.[1] The church first came to public notice in the United States after sociology student John Lofland studied Young Oon Kim's group and published his findings as a doctoral thesis entitled: The World Savers: A Field Study of Cult Processes , which was published in 1966 in book form by Prentice-Hall as Doomsday Cult: A Study of Conversion, Proselytization, and Maintenance of Faith.

  • The Unificationist Funerary Tradition
religions Article The Unificationist Funerary Tradition Lukas Pokorny Department of Religious Studies, University of Vienna, 1010 Vienna, Austria; [email protected] Received: 22 April 2020; Accepted: 17 May 2020; Published: 20 May 2020 Abstract: This paper explores the distinctive funerary tradition of the Unification Movement, a globally active South Korean new religious movement founded in 1954. Its funerary tradition centres on the so-called Seonghwa (formerly Seunghwa) Ceremony, which was introduced in January 1984. The paper traces the doctrinal context and the origin narrative before delineating the ceremony itself in its Korean expression, including its preparatory and follow-up stages, as well as its short-lived adaptation for non-members. Notably, with more and more first-generation adherents passing away—most visibly in respect to the leadership culminating in the Seonghwa Ceremony of the founder himself in 2012—the funerary tradition has become an increasingly conspicuous property of the Unificationist lifeworld. This paper adds to a largely uncharted area in the study of East Asian new religious movements, namely the examination of their distinctive deathscapes, as spelled out in theory and practice. Keywords: Unification Church; funeral; death; ritual; new religious movement; Korea; East Asia 1. Introduction “‘Death’ is a sacred word. It is not a major expression for sorrow and pain. [ ::: ] The moment one enters the spiritual world is a time that one enters a world of joy and victory with the earthly life having blossomed, the fruits borne, and the grain ladled. It is a moment we [i.e., those staying behind] should rejoice. It should be a time when we celebrate wholeheartedly.

GOD’S IDEAL FAMILY AND PEACE KINGDOM Blessing the Family, the Nation and the World Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and Family 120 Nation Tour United States and Canada April 28 – May 10, 2006 [ 1 ] [ 2 ] INTRODUCTION While on the one hand, history often seems ordinary and routine, with days flowing by one after the other, there are turning points in history. Within any given life, for example, there can be significant, life-transforming moments. Sometimes these are called “rites of passage.” Many times a single moment in a person’s life can be of profound and lasting significance. For example, a seemingly chance meeting with another person can form the basis for tragedy or good fortune. The outcome depends not only on the circumstances and nature of the oppor- tunity, but on our ability to see clearly, recognize what needs to be done, and take the right course of action. I believe with absolute conviction that we stand at the most critical juncture ever to befall the human commu- nity. The entire world is truly standing on the threshold of an age of peace. The hope of all ages, for a unified world of peace, is about to be realized. The day of its arrival depends on us. Rev Chung Hwan Kwak, Chairman, Universal Peace Federation Welcome! We’re so grateful and happy that you’ve come here today to share with us this profound and historical occa- sion. It is our sincere prayer and confident expectation that we will receive a special blessing from Heaven today, and that God in his mercy and love will bring all of us several steps closer to the kingdom of harmony and peace.

By that time, Moon and the Unification Church (UC) had generated controversy throughout the United States over a variety of issues. Many Americans were distressed by the recruitment techniques of the UC. Others questioned the failure of the UC to state openly its ties with the numerous groups it had set up; the use to which it 312 put its tax-exempt status; the propriety of its owning and operating an armaments plant in South Korea; possible links to the South Korean Government; and Moon's statements in late 1973 and 1974 concerning President Nixon and Watergate. The most volatile controversy raged around the charges that "Moonies" were brainwashed. The UC in turn countercharged that parents were kidnaping UC members for "deprogramming" and successfully obtained court orders restricting the activities of the deprogrammers.
