Thalys fête aujourd'hui les 175 ans de la liaison ferroviaire entre Paris et Bruxelles. A l’occasion de cet anniversaire, et de la reprise des voyages en Europe, un train ‘événementiel’ avec 175 clients et partenaires de Thalys a relié ce matin Paris à Bruxelles, non plus en deux jours comme ce fut le cas le 14 juin 1846, mais en 1h22. Première liaison en train entre deux capitales, ce premier voyage Paris-Bruxelles a marqué le début du transport ferroviaire international en Europe. Au fil des années et des évolutions technologiques, SNCF Réseau, le gestionnaire d’infrastructure français, et Infrabel, le gestionnaire d’infrastructure belge, ont innové et transformé leurs installations pour répondre toujours mieux aux besoins des clients sur cette liaison historique. En cette année européenne du rail, Thalys fête aussi ses 25 ans et célèbre le voyage en Europe à grande vitesse. Un voyage très attendu par ses clients. Un sondage Odoxa pour Thalys montre ainsi que 4 Français sur 10 (soit 37%) envisagent de visiter un pays européen proche de la France cette année, contre 16% en 2020 et 17% en 2019. Parmi les destinations desservies par Thalys, la Belgique et les Pays-Bas sont les destinations les plus attrayantes. En gare de Bruxelles-Midi, le Thalys événementiel a été accueilli par une délégation composée de Sophie Dutordoir, CEO de la SNCB et Présidente du Conseil d’administration de Thalys, Georges Gilkinet, ministre de la Mobilité, et Benoît Gilson, CEO d'Infrabel. Sophie Dutordoir, CEO de la SNCB et Présidente du Conseil d’administration de Thalys, a déclaré : « A l’origine de cette belle aventure qu’est Thalys, il y a, en premier lieu, les entreprises ferroviaires, SNCB et SNCF, qui croyaient vivement en l'avenir des trains à grande vitesse, et en Thalys en particulier, pour déployer le shift modal vers un mode de transport durable. Il y a aussi eu les pouvoirs publics qui ont été prêts à investir dans ces lignes à grande vitesse. Et nous avons eu, et avons toujours, des équipes et des collaborateurs enthousiastes qui ont rendu tout cela possible. Merci à tous les partenaires de croire dans le train comme mode de transport sûr, confortable, durable et inclusif. Continuons de rêver ensemble ! » Thalys passe à la vitesse supérieure Après plusieurs mois difficiles marqués par des restrictions de voyage, Thalys augmente aujourd’hui une nouvelle fois ses fréquences à 50% de son offre normale, avec 11 allers-retours quotidiens entre Bruxelles et Paris. A partir du 25 juillet, Thalys portera son offre à 68% jusqu’au 4 septembre. Malgré les contraintes liées au contexte sanitaire, les deux gestionnaires d’infrastructure ont réalisé l’ensemble des travaux de modernisation prévus en 2020 et 2021 sur la ligne à grande vitesse, permettant cette reprise progressive des circulations avec un haut niveau de sécurité et de confort aux voyageurs. Aujourd’hui, Thalys rouvre ses salons ‘lounge’ à Bruxelles-Midi et Paris-Nord. Café, thé et rafraîchissements seront à nouveau disponibles avant le départ de nos trains. Enfin, pionnier du wifi à bord depuis 2008, Thalys lance aujourd’hui son nouveau « Thalysnet ». Son portail de connexion à Internet à bord des trains rouges fait peau neuve et est désormais encore plus simple d’utilisation. Près de 4 Français sur 10 envisagent de visiter l’Europe cet été (CP FRANCAIS UNIQUEMENT) Alors que les Français prévoient de rester majoritairement en France lors de leurs vacances d'été et que les effets de la crise sont encore palpables, un sondage Odoxa mené pour Thalys montre que près de 4 Français sur 10 (37%) envisagent de visiter un pays européen proche de la France cette année, contre 16% en 20201 et 17% en 20192. 1 source : sondage Odoxa 2 source : sondage OpinionWay Pour les étudiants ou les jeunes actifs, c'est près de la moitié des sondés qui envisagent de se rendre dans un pays européen proche de chez eux. C'est le cas notamment des 25-34 ans (54%) et des 18-24 ans (48%). Parmi les destinations Thalys, la Belgique et les Pays-Bas sont les destinations les plus attrayantes. 2/3 des Français aimeraient visiter ou redécouvrir prochainement la Belgique, l’Allemagne ou les Pays- Bas, avec une préférence pour la Belgique (53%) et les Pays Bas (51%), en particulier chez les jeunes entre 18 et 24 ans. A noter que 70% des Français ont déjà visité au moins l’un de ces trois pays ! Ces destinations, accessibles facilement en train, de centre-ville à centre-ville, représentent des lieux de choix pour les Français qui ne se lassent pas d’y retourner. Pour choisir -leur moyen de transport, les Français privilégient la rapidité Pour les Français, les principaux critères de choix d’un mode de transport (après le prix) sont la rapidité d'accès à destination (58%), le confort (34%) ou encore l’accès direct en centre-ville (31%). Des critères de sélection essentiellement portés par le train à grande vitesse pour des trajets de courte et moyenne distance, notamment. 175 ans de la liaison Paris-Bruxelles ● 1846 - 14 et 15 juin - Première liaison ferroviaire internationale entre deux capitales : Paris et Bruxelles. Le voyage dure 2 jours et passe par Lille. ○ Jour 1 : Paris - Lille ○ Jour 2 : Lille - Mouscron - Courtrai - Gand - Malines - Bruxelles-Nord ● Juillet 1846 - La liaison avec Paris se fait désormais en une seule journée, même avec plus de 15 arrêts. A la fin du XIXème siècle, le trajet durait 4h46. ● 1927 - Lancement des trains Étoile du Nord, reliant Paris à Amsterdam et Bruxelles. La liaison Paris-Bruxelles se faisait alors en seulement 3h30. ● 1957 - Lancement du service Trans-Europe-Express (TEE) - trois liaisons à grande vitesse par des trains à moteur diesel, nommés Ile de France, Etoile du Nord et Oiseau Bleu. ● 1963 - Lancement de la ligne électrifiée Paris-Bruxelles. Les rames diesel ont été remplacées par des trains tractés par des locomotives à unités multiples. ● 1964 - Lancement du nouveau TEE direct entre Paris et Bruxelles, appelé Brabant. ● 1993 - Lancement de la Ligne Grande Vitesse Nord.

Essential input documents to this Report are “FRMCS Traffic Analysis” [10] and ETSI TR 103 554 “LTE radio performance simulations and evaluations in rail environment” [11]. The estimation of the throughput needed and of the spectrum needs for the successor to GSM-R are to a major extent based on the findings of these documents. These early considerations may need to be refined when results of proposals and studies from ETSI and ECC become available. Detailed frequency band options and harmonised technical conditions will be described in future ECC deliverables. 0.1 ABOUT THE NEED FOR PARALLEL OPERATION OF GSM-R AND ITS SUCCESSOR Railway interoperability, i.e. ability for trains and staff to operate uninterruptedly across borders and railway networks, must be ensured. Requirements related to interoperability are legally binding in Europe since they are part of the Control-Command and Signalling Technical Specification for Interoperability (CCS TSI), which is published in the European Regulation 2016/919/EU [4]. The principles laid down in that CCS TSI do not allow actions such as a mandatory retrofit of cab-radios (unless specific rules are agreed). In addition, an overnight switchover would not leave the possibility to perform the necessary field tests to check whether the railway requirements are met. Therefore, GSM-R and its successor will have to operate in parallel for a period of time.

    ONOMÀSTICA BIBLIOTECA TÈCNICA DE POLÍTICA LINGÜÍSTICA European Train Names: a Historic Outline* Christian Weyers DOI: 10.2436/15.8040.01.201 Abstract This paper gives a first overview of the onomastic category of train names, searches to classify the corpus and reviews different stages of their productivity. Apart from geographical names (toponyms, choronyms, compass directions) generally indicating points of origin and destination of the trains in question, a considerable number of personal names have entered this category, of classical literary authors, musicians and scientists, but also of many fictional or non-fictional characters taken from literature or legendary traditions. In some cases also certain symbolic attributes of these persons and finally even heraldic figures have given their names to trains. In terms of their functionality, train names originally were an indicator of exclusiveness and high grade of travel quality, but they developed gradually, as they dispersed over the European continent, into a rather unspecific, generalized appellation, also for regional and local trains. After two periods of prosperity after 1950, the privatisation of railway companies starting in the 1990s had again a very positive effect on the category, as the number of named trains initially reached a new record in this decade. ***** The first train names appeared in England in the 1860s in addition to names for steam locomotives, and on two different levels. The Special Scotch Express between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh (inaugurated in 1862) was called by the public The Flying Scotsman from the 1870s, but it succeeded as the official name not before 1924. Also the names of the German diesel trainsets Der Fliegende Hamburger and Der Fliegende Kölner were colloquial name creations, as were the Train Bleu and the Settebello operated from 1922 and 1953 but officially named in 1947 and 1958, respectively.
