On the Thursday evening we were entertained by the British Ambassador Jonathan Knott at his imposing Residence. During the rest of the visit we visited an array of magnificent buildings including the imposing State Opera House, built in 1884 to rival those in Paris and Vienna; the St Stephen’s Basilica, Esztergom Cathedral, the Country’s biggest church in the smallest town in Hungary, the Royal Palace in Visegrad; in Szentendre, the Margit Kovacs Ceramic Museum, not plates and mugs, but wonderful expressive human figures all demonstrating varying Bob & Wenda Belam experiences of life; and finally in Pest the stunning Byzantine Moorish style Great Synagogue with its sad WW11 history. Even our Hotel, the Corinthia, was stately and imposing, both inside and out.
