I thank my teachers at UCSD, whose constant patience and professionalism in the face of daunting work loads still made room for the unusual inquiry and the new. I also want to thank Nicole Tonkovich for modeling the highest standards of excellence in teaching, writing, and research and whose grace under pressure will always be an example.
