The Faculty of Biology of Johannes Gutenberg University , Institute of Molecular Physiology (imP), invites applications for a

University Professorship for Molecular Biotechnology (Bes.Gr. W 2 LBesG)

We are seeking an internationally visible research personality in the field of Molecular Biotechnology, Applied or Technical Microbiology. The research focus should be in the area of Biotechnology and/or Drug Research based on the biotechnological use of microorganisms (bacteria and/or fungi). This can include a technical platform for the design and production/synthesis of active biomolecules or metabolic pathways like designed enzymes, biomolecule-based analysis methods or medical drugs. A scientific and economic benefit should be clearly visible.

Local and regional networking on campus within the Faculty of Biology, with other faculties in the natural and life sciences at Johannes Gutenberg University as well as research institutes like the Institute for Biotechnology and Drug Research (IBWF), the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB), the Max Planck Institutes for Polymer Research and Chemistry, and the Rhine-Main Universities alliance (RMU), is especially encouraged. Shaping of and active contribution to local research clusters as e.g. collaborative centers, graduate schools and top high-level research area clusters like ReALity and SusInnoScience is desired (fur further details: https://www.bio.uni-mainz.de/forschung). The successful candidate will teach the topic “Molecular Biotechnology” in the Bachelor´s and Master´s degree courses, especially in the new degree program “Molecular Biotechnology”. Furthermore, a contribution to the FORTHEM alliance of the JGU (https://forthem.uni-mainz.de) is desired, which also includes plans for the establishment of the new international Master degree in “Microbiology”.

State law (§ 49 of the Hochschulgesetz Rheinland-Pfalz) requires applicants to have the relevant University and Doctoral degrees, and an outstanding scientific track record.

The State of - and JGU put particular emphasis on intensive student support. We expect the University’s faculty to reflect this in their presence at the University. A team-oriented and cooperative work attitude, strong communication skills and the willingness to assume responsibility – including further professional development in accordance with JGU’s leadership guidelines – is therefore expected.
