Terms are created everyday due to the new realities that constantly appear in fashion world. The problem is that it does not exist any normalization for this terminology. Another problem lies in the fact that English is the working language used by the experts in this area and, although there are also fashion publications in other languages, such as French, Italian or Spanish, this list does not include Catalan. From this point, we chose a number of fashion magazines in Spanish and English and we did a terminology extraction from which we selected 24 terms to study. This paper shows the analysis we performed for each term based on the normalization process we created, consisting in four parts: presentation of the term, which includes origin, meaning and motivation; analysis of its documented uses, which presents the contexts where it was found; pros and cons of each possibility, which are based in the linguistic, terminological, and sociolinguistic aspects described in the paper; and the final proposal with its argumentation, built from the pros and cons. At the end, we have been able to establish a fashion terminological proposal for the Catalan language. Our findings show that the influence of English language in fashion terminology is very significant and that natural word formation resources are different between Catalan and English linguistic systems: Catalan uses loanwords and a special kind of compounding while English prefers compounding. Also, the paper implies the necessity of further studies in fashion terminology with more significant data to affirm these conclusions. 1.

  • Fashion's Autumn/Winter 2014 Ad Campaigns | Financial Times
04/01/2020, 10:22 Page 1 of 1 Luxury goods Add to myFT Fashion’s autumn/winter 2014 ad campaigns A deconstruction of the industry’s ads for the season reveals a sombre economic mood Share Save David Hayes AUGUST 8 2014 Hemlines may once have been a cute way of monitoring the state of the economy – rather aptly, they are all over the place these days – but nothing gives a snapshot of global hard-currency health better than a flick through the September issues of the world’s glossiest fashion magazines. Landing on newsstands with a reassuringly weighty thud early this month, the current edition of US Vogue has more advertising than any other American fashion or lifestyle magazine, with a whopping 631 ad pages. Yet it is still down 4.5 per cent on last year’s Lady Gaga extravaganza of 665 pages – which in turn was down on the magazine’s peak of 727 pages of ads in 2007. The luxury sector may not have turned an economic corner – yet. And in fashion terms the mood is not exactly upbeat, either: think brown and black set against brutalist concrete architecture (Prada); corseted women hanging around in a drab hotel suite (Dior); and models trapped in a surrealist crazy golf course from hell, wearing equally disturbing knitwear (Kenzo). Yes, advertising matters, not only as a barometer of the spending trends of the fashion world, but also as a tone-setting exercise. The following images are how fashion should look this autumn/winter, straight from the designer’s eye, so take note.

  • Vogue Italia Di Settembre: Le 100 Copertine
Instagram star come Emily Ratajkowski e Paloma Elsesser.

PAGE 3 BANKING ON POST-CHRISTMAS Stores Hope Sales Rescue WWD Blah Holiday WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2012 Q WOMEN’S WEAR DAILY Q $3.00 By DAVID MOIN AFTER A PUZZLING and mostly disappointing holi- day run, retailers are eyeing the post-Christmas sell- ing period through January for the season’s salvation. Typically by Christmas Day, retailers are confident they’ll make their numbers. It’s not quite the case this year, based on how retail sales have played out thus far. Store executives and analysts contacted Monday Shopper and Tuesday said there were two peak periods — Black Friday weekend and last weekend, and an un- usually prolonged shopping lull in between. In other Style words, it was feast or famine, and mostly the latter. ’Tis the season for procrastinating shoppers — famous models included. WWD recently snapped Carolyn Murphy picking up some last-minute gifts on Howard Street in New York’s SoHo neighborhood. For more stylish shoppers, see page 8. ® THEY ARE WEARING Retailers accelerated markdowns last week and will keep them going this week and throughout January. “The year is not over for us yet. We have to continue to stay focused,” said Edgar Huber, chief executive of- ficer of Lands’ End. He said Lands’ End will be driven through January by the usual end-of-season sales as well as new product arrivals, though he was positive about the state of his business.
