Opel Motorsport-Geschichte Die Ruhmreiche Opel Opel Motorsport-Geschichte Die ruhmreiche Opel-Motorsportgeschichte wird vom legendären Opel Rennwagen 1903 angeführt. Der London-Brighton-Veteran verfügt bereits in der Anfangszeit des Motorsports über einen Kar- danantrieb zu den Hinterrädern. Nur zehn Jahre später gehören zu einem erfolgreichen Grand-Prix-Rennwagen bereits techni- sche Finessen wie eine obenliegende Nockenwelle mit Königs- wellenantrieb und vier Ventilen pro Zylinder. Herausragende O- pel-Technik von 1913 – schon damals für Tempo 170 gut. Und nur ein weiteres Jahr der Entwicklung verwandelte den Opel Rennwagen in einen Hubraum-Giganten mit 12,3 Liter Volumen, 260 PS und einer Endgeschwindigkeit von sagenhaften 228 km/h. Dieses für damalige Zeit unfassbare Tempo fuhr das so genannte „Grüne Monster“ vornehmlich bei Strandrennen mit endlosen Ge- raden. Im Gegensatz dazu heißt der zentrale Begriff des Rallye-Sports „die Kurve“. Und Meister des spektakulären Drifts ist der Opel As- cona – vor allem mit Walter Röhrl am Lenkrad. Der Ausnahmefahrer gewann 1974 (mit Copilot Jochen Berger) auf einem Ascona A die Europameisterschaft und 1982 mit dem Ascona 400 und Christian Geistdörfer die Königsklasse – die Rallye-WM. Auch auf der Rundstrecke hat Opel in der jüngeren Vergangenheit kräftig hingelangt. Star des En- sembles ist zweifellos der „Cliff-Calibra“. Mit dem allradgetriebenen Klasse-1-Tourenwagen schnappte sich Manuel Reuter 1996 die Krone der International Touringcar Championship. Die ITC war aus der DTM hervorgegangen und zu einem weltweiten Wettbewerb gewachsen. Der Opel Calibra V6 dominierte schließlich die mit Formel-1-Technik ausgestatteten Gegner von Alfa Romeo und Mercedes. In den Sechzigern und Siebzigern war die große Zeit der Tuner, die sportliche Serienautos in sa- genhafte Rennwagen verwandelten. Zeugen dieser Epoche sind der Opel Commodore A von Klaus Steinmetz, zwei Opel GT von Virgilio Conrero sowie der mit 280 PS leistungsstärkste GT von Mo- torenpapst Ulrich Gerent. Opel Rennwagen 1903 Die Basis dieses Rennwagens, ein Opel 10/12 PS, ist die erste komplett eigenständig entwickelte Opel-Konstruktion. Die Opel-Ingenieure haben alle technischen Neuheiten dieser Zeit in diesen Wagen einfließen lassen – wie den Hinterradantrieb über eine Gelenkwelle. Dieser Rennwagen wird noch heute bei Veranstaltungen eingesetzt. Zum Beispiel nahm er am 5. November 2006 erfolgreich an dem legendären „London to Brighton Veteran Car Run“ für Oldtimer bis 1904 teil, wo er zuverlässig nach fünf- stündiger Fahrt das Ziel erreichte. Technische Daten Motor Zweizylinder stehend angeordnet mit 1885 cm³ Hubraum, Bohrung x Hub 100 x 120 mm, Querstrom-Prinzip, Leistung 12/8,9 PS/KW, seitlich stehende Ventile, zwei Nockenwellen, Spritzvergaser, Batteriezündung. Kraftübertragung Lederkonuskupplung, Dreigang-Getriebe, Schaltung an der Lenksäule, Hinterradantrieb über Kardanwelle. Fahrwerk/Karosserie Rahmen U-Profil-Längsträger mit kernfreiem Eichenholz armiert, Holzaufbau, vorne und hinten Starrachse an halbelliptischen Blattfedern, kugelgelagerte Speichen Räder Maße Länge x Breite x Höhe: 2.920 x 1.450 x 1.450 mm Geschwindigkeit 70 km/h Opel Grand Prix Rennwagen 1913 Vor dem ersten Weltkrieg entwickelte Opel, einer der führenden Rennwa- genbauer in Europa, eine neue Rennwagen-Generation für den Grand Prix de France. Einem Vorläufer der heutigen Formel 1 Rennen. Die drei aufgebauten GP-Wagen sind konsequent auf Leichtbau getrimmt und verfügen über einen Vierzylinder-Motor mit 16 Ventilen und obenlie- gender Nockenwelle mit Königswellenantrieb. Alle drei Rennwagen haben die Jahrzehnte überdauert. Zwei befinden sich in Privatbesitz in Deutsch- land und England. Technische Daten Motor Vierzylinder / Reihe, Blockmotor, Querstromprinzip, Gusseisen, Kurbelgehäuse, Alumi- nium, 4,5 Liter, Leistung 110 PS, Nockenwelle im Zylinderkopf, Königswelle mit Kegeltrieb, je zwei Ein- und Auslassventile pro Zylinder, Kraftübertragung Viergang-Getriebe, Kulissenschaltung, Hinterradantrieb, Kardanwelle, Fahrwerk/Karosserie Zweisitzer, Rennkarosserie, U-förmige Längsträger, Holz-Stahlaufbau, Maße/Gewicht Länge x Breite x Höhe: 4.000 x 1.650 x 1.290 mm, 1.000 kg, Geschwindigkeit 170 km/h Opel 12,3 Liter-Rennwagen „Green Monster“ 1914 1914 entsteht in den Rüsselsheimer Werkshallen das gewaltigste Fahrzeug der Unternehmensgeschichte. Der gewaltige Motorblock besteht aus der hochwertigen Aluminium-Legierung Silumin. Der 12,3 Liter Renn- und Rekordwagen basiert technisch auf dem Grand-Prix-Wagen von 1913 und verfügt ebenfalls über die fort- schrittliche Vierventil-Technik. Die Urgewalt des 260 PS starken Hubraum-Monsters entfesselt Werkspilot Carl Jörns mit Vorliebe bei Strandrennen auf der dänischen Insel FanØ. Mit diesem Boliden hat der begnadete Rennfahrer die meisten Siege seiner langen Karriere errungen. Technische Daten Motor Vierzylinder / Reihe, Siluminmotorblock, Querstromprinzip, Gusseisen, Kurbelgehäuse Alu- minium, 12,3 Liter, Leistung ca. 260 PS, Nockenwelle in Zylinderkopf, Königswelle, je zwei Ein- und Auslassventile pro Zylinder, Kraftübertragung Viergang-Getriebe, Kulissenschaltung, Hinterradantrieb, Kardanwelle, Fahrwerk/Karosserie Zweisitzer, Rennkarosserie, U-förmige Längsträger, Holz-/Leichtmetallaufbau, Gewicht 2.000 kg Geschwindigkeit Über 228 km/h Opel Rekord C „Schwarze Witwe“ – Spezialtourenwagen Gruppe 5 1968 Opel-Designcenter 1967/68: Anatole Lapine sowie einige motor- sportbegeisterte Mitarbeiter beschließen, einen Rennwagen auf Basis eines Rekord C zu entwickeln. So wird ein Geheimprojekt geboren. Das Ergebnis ist ein schwarzer Rekord C 1900 mit gelber Beschriftung, auffallend breiten Reifen, einem Überrollkäfig sowie einem Lufteinlass unter der vorderen Stoßstange. Da die Taxen in Deutschland damals schwarz und die Taxi-Schilder gelb sind, wird der Wagen schnell „das Taxi“ genannt. Der Motor wird in Schweden unter der Leitung von Ragnar Ecklund aufwendig präpariert, so dass dieser fast die doppelte Leistung im Vergleich zum Serienmotor hat. Das Fahrwerk wird massiv an der Hinterachse umgebaut, um die Power auf den Asphalt zu bekommen. Der Rekord C fährt beim internationalen Saisonfinale Gruppe 5 in Ho- ckenheim, pilotiert von Erich Bitter, die schnellste Zeit. Damit wird die der Tourenwagen zur Legende – unter neuem Namen: „Die schwarze Witwe“. Der Wagen geht schließlich Anfang 1969 an Kurt Bergmann in Wien, der das Rennauto in Tulln/Langenlebarn einsetzt – gefahren von einem damals 20jährigen Unbekannten mit dem schönen Namen: Niki Lauda †. Der hier gezeigte Opel Rekord C ist nach intensiven Recherchen (Original-Bildmaterial und Infor- mationen früherer Mitarbeiter) ein authentisch neu aufgebautes Fahrzeug. Ganzstahlkar. mit zwei Türen; Radaufhg. vo.: Doppel-Querlenker, Stabi.; hin- ten: Starrachse, Längslenker, Panhardstab, eingeschw. Querträger, Kreuzkonstr., Unibal-Gelenke; v./h. Stoßdämpfer, Schraubenfedern; Kugelumlauflenkung. Maße/Gewicht Länge x Breite x Höhe: 4550 x 1754 x 1380 mm, 935kg, Geschwindigkeit Über 200km/h je nach Übersetzung, von 0 auf 100 km/h in 16 Sekunden, Opel GT Conrero 1970/1972 1965 feiert der Opel GT als erste Studie eines deutschen Herstel- lers auf der Internationalen Automobilausstellung in Frankfurt seine Weltpremiere – der Beginn einer wundervollen Leidenschaft! Neben seinem sportlichen Alltagsleben verdient sich der GT auch auf der Rennstrecke seine Meriten. Einige namhafte Tuner – unter ihnen Virgilio Conrero – verpassen dem Rüsselsheimer Grand Tou- risme zusätzliche Muskeln. Sie verleihen ihm Flügel und unterstreichen so auch optisch den Opel- Werbeslogan „Nur Fliegen ist schöner“. Im Sommer 1970 fährt der GT beim Gran Premo Mugello einen Klassensieg vor der bis dahin überlegenen Konkurrenz ein. Weitere Erfolge schließen sich an – etwa auf der berühmten Targa Florio 1971 und 1972. Auch in Monza (1972) und bei den Opel- Markenrennen auf dem Nürburgring sorgen die Conrero-GT aus Turin für Furore.
