IJSTE - International Journal of Science Technology & Engineering | Volume 3 | Issue 09 | March 2017 ISSN (online): 2349-784X A Comparative Study of Environmental Effect of Green Buses to Existing Public Transport Nikhilesh Milind Kadam Prof. V. K. Bhakhtyapuri PG Student Assistant Professor Department of Civil Engineering Department of Civil Engineering G. H. Raisoni College of Engineering, Nagpur, India G. H. Raisoni College of Engineering, Nagpur, India Prof. S. D. Ghodmare Assistant Professor Department of Civil Engineering G. H. Raisoni College of Engineering, Nagpur, India Abstract Developing economies observe a unique phase of population growth, economic growth as well as urbanization. As one-third of Indian population lives in urban area; and so road transport dominates. Public transport existence is quite uneven in developing cities and where-ever a reasonable level of service is offered it has attracted ridership. Bus-based service all together comprises about 90% of public transport. In cities increasing travel demand, dependence on private vehicle mode and declining public transport mode will increase energy demand and CO2 emission from cities. The research is carried to analysis the environmental parameter CO2 emission of existing public transportation with respect to Green bus and to perform comparative analysis of traffic parameters i.e. queue length and travel time between existing and green bus as a mode of public transportation of selected route by using PTV Vissim and EnViVer software. The Green bus has potential to reduce the CO2 emission about 26.71% which helps to improve air quality of the city, the travel time is increased by 16.73% and 8.50% on north bound and south bound respectively of Green bus due to its bus characteristics, and it provides safety and comfort to the user. -

India is one of the world's fastest growing economics today where the road transport industry has a lion share in India’s economic development. Due to easy accessibility, flexibility of operations, door to door service, the bus transportation is a boon to the public. The contribution of bus transport to the nation is about 1.2% which is 25% of contribution of all the transportation sectors in India. To make use of the bus transport system efficiently, proper bus management and depot management are necessary. Madurai, a temple city situated at the southern part of Tamil Nadu is well connected with air transport, rail transport and bus transport network. The city is divided into four zones with 100 wards. The rural and urban characteristics make 70% of the population of Madurai to prefer bus transportation. This study deals with the city bus services and the depot management in Madurai district. The district contains 16 depots with five depots in zone I, two depots in zone II, three depots in zone III and six depots in zone IV to spread the bus service throughout the city. -

Population is continuously increasing because of industrialization, service sector growth and change in lifestyle. People demand safe drinking water for different purposes such as cooking, cleaning, washing cloth. There is need to provide safe, reliable and consistent drinking water in all municipal councils. Municipal councils must invest more money in storage and distribution of drinking water supply. Water supply connections in each municipal council are less in terms of total households and commercial units. The recovery of water bills is very low in all municipal councils. Therefore there is less revenue generated from water supply system. All municipal councils should have modern water supply system to resolve different issues at different levels. There is need of public participation in drinking water supply in all municipal councils. Public awareness of water use will save more drinking water. Keywords: Water distribution, Storage, equality 1. INTRODUCTION Water is a basic necessity of human being. Therefore it is responsibility of government to provide drinking water to whole population. India has undoubtedly made some impressive gains in providing Volume 6 Issue 1 / March March 2014 / Issue 1 6 Volume drinking water to its population compared to the situation at independence. -
Experiential Shaping of Public Space During Pilgrimage: the Alandi-Pandharpur Palkhi
EXPERIENTIAL SHAPING OF PUBLIC SPACE DURING PILGRIMAGE: THE ALANDI-PANDHARPUR PALKHI PRAJAKTA SANE A thesis submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Architecture Postgraduate Board University of New South Wales March 2007 Abstract Space perceived and experienced through movement presents an interesting array of imagery which blends together to form a comprehensive whole. My thesis explores this dimension of spatial complexity through the public ritual of pilgrimage. This profound and deeply significant human activity connects the individual places to form an integrated sacred network. The practice of pilgrimage has developed over centuries across the globe and continues to grow and influence a huge cross section of society to come together and move en-masse towards religious centres and personal enlightenment. Public spaces demand a simultaneous co-existence of people, activities and their setting. The phenomenon of pilgrimage is central to the public realm. Its study involves an intricate layering of beliefs, customs, traditions and religion which collectively govern the people-space relationship. The transformation of a space to a place, from static to dynamic, from passive to active occurs during this activity, maintaining the traditional usage while simultaneously evolving as a product of interaction between people, rituals and spaces. In this thesis, I examine the experiential shaping of space which occurs through pilgrims’ activities and their impacts on the given urban and architectural conditions. The research is based on my study of the Alandi-Pandharpur Pilgrimage in India. It is an outcome of my participation in the ritual as, both, an architect and a pilgrim.
