Bugs (Insecta: Heteroptera) are frequently used as examples of unusual cy- togenetic characters, and the family Cimicidae is one of most interest in this respect. We have performed a cytogenetic study of the common bed bug Cimex lectularius Linnaeus, 1758 using both classical (Schiff-Giemsa and AgNO3-staining) and mo- lecular cytogenetic techniques (base-specifi c DAPI/CMA3 fl uorochromes and FISH with an 18S rDNA probe). Males originated from a wild population of C. lectularius were found to have 2n = 26 + X1X2Y, holokinetic chromosomes, 18S rRNA genes located on the X1 and Y chromosomes; achiasmate male meiosis of a collochore type; MI and MII plates nonradial and radial respectively. (Email: [email protected]) Abstract Polyctenidae Westwood, also known as bat bugs, is a haematophagous group of hemipterans exclusively ectoparasitic on bats and is closely related to Cimicidae Latreille. These bugs are dorsoventrally flattened with conspicuous ctenidia, apterous, anophthalmus, possess well-developed legs, and reproduce via pseudoplacental viviparity. They are rare compared to other insect taxa ectoparasitic on bats as evinced by a relatively small number of museum collections and described taxa. Worldwide, it is represented by 2 subfamilies, 5 genera, and 32 species. In the Philippines, it is only represented by two species from the genus Eoctenes Kirkaldy: E. spasmae (Waterhouse) and E. intermedius (Speiser). The first Philippine record for the genus was reported in 1961 from Northern Luzon. This paper presents the first record of Eoctenes in Southern Luzon, with key to the Cimicoidea ectoparasitic on bats in the Philippines. V6T 1Z4 Tel: 604 822 3682, Fax: 604 822 2416 Email: [email protected] Abstract. Five hundred eighty-two Heteroptera taxa are listed for the Prairies Ecozone in Canada. This number represents 40.7% of the taxa reported for Canada and 79.2% of the taxa recorded from the three Prairie Provinces. The dominant components are species with a Nearctic distribution, excluding Beringia. However, the Great Basin-Prairies element is the most distinctive. Introduction Maw et al. (2000) listed the Heteroptera recorded from the three Prairie Provinces in Canada. Brooks and Kelton (1967) considered the aquatic and semi-aquatic Heteroptera of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, while Scudder et al. (2010) documented the aquatic Hemiptera recorded from the prairie grasslands and parkland. In the terrestrial Heteroptera, Kelton (1980) treated the plant bugs of the Prairie Provinces, and subsequent individual taxonomic papers have advanced the knowledge of many of the genera. Matsuda (1977) included prairie species in his consideration for the Aradidae of Canada, and Kelton (1978) did likewise for the Anthocoridae (s.l.). The only detailed annotated provincial list of Heteroptera available is that of Strickland (1953) for the province of Alberta, but this is now somewhat out of date. There are no published annotated lists for the provinces of Manitoba or Saskatchewan. ABSTRACT Studies on bedbugs and ticks can reveal the morphological and taxonomical characters of species. This study was based on the analysis of different bedbugs and ticks with respect to the species. Bed bugs and mites samples were collected from Utkal University boy’s hostel and Nayapali area respectively. Bed bugs were collected during night time by using forceps whereas ticks were collected during day time from street dogs. After the collection of species there were preserved by using formalin in a plastic box for 24 hours. After preservation the test was examined under stereo zoom microscope. In this present study the ectoparasites Cimex lectularius, Cimex pilosellus, Adjunciusoeciacus, Boophilusannulatus, Rhipicepalus sanguinius, were respectively examined. The relationship with humans and animals and ectoparasites infections causes a serious loss in health and economy every year (Yadav et al., 2017).
