Our House

Our yacht club workday really was a lot of fun and we got a tremendous amount of work accom- plished. I am always amazed at how much fun a work party can be. There was a lot of laughter, conversation and camaraderie. Everyone worked very hard until the beer was passed out. That was the end of the work. Then we ate pizza, drank more beer and talked some more. It was a warm, beautiful day. The pride of own- ership is apparent as the club house expansion nears completion. We cleaned and painted the galley, mounted the mail box, cleaned the captains’ chairs in the dining (Rob Schuyler and John Fraser during the room, trimmed the ivy, pulled weeds, washed the stair- SCYC Junior Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser) way, installed a hose holder, hung a sign, organized the social closet, cleaned out a new outdoor closet, Sauceda, Bob Barker, Tom Garside, Bret Gripen- dug post holes for the flag pole, washed the outside straw, James Savattone, Gene and Dave (J109) and chairs and tables, dusted the ceiling lights, replaced last but not least De Schuyler working with one hand. the yacht club burgees, organized the house cleaning Special thanks to Ric Diola for numerous days closet, cleaned the downstairs shower rooms, polished installing a new stereo, new TV and public announcing the men’s head and remade plaques and signage. system. The Club has been a very busy place with many happenings these past weeks and many more events planned for this summer. As always, this would not be possible without the many volunteers who con- tinue to make the Santa Cruz Yacht Club a great place. The last Crab Feed of the season was a very successful fundraiser with the proceeds going back into the Club’s Social Budget. Our faithful volun- teer group consisting of Homer Lighthall, Rick Linkemyer, Barbara Booth, Chris Lane, Lauren and Mack Ellis, Rob and De Schuyler and Michael Woods out did themselves once more! In addition, a big thank you goes out to all who helped with clearing (Matthew Coale, Gene Sofen and Rick Linkemyer the tables, sorting our new crab crackers and taking installing the newly painted flag pole) out the trash. Next session of Safe Power Boating comes up Septem- ber 8-9. Look for sign-ups on the Junior page, coming Fall SCORE Race #1 Re-Scheduled soon.
