Outreach Notice Silver City Interagency Hotshot Crew GS-03 Announcement #: TEMPOCR-0462-3-FIRE GS-04 Announcement #: TEMPOCR-0462-4-HOTSHOT-DT GS-05 Announcement #: TEMPOCR-0462-5-HOTSHOT-DT Position: Arduous Level Firefighter Series: 0462 Grade: GS-03 through GS-05 Appointment Limit: 1039 hrs. /Full Time Seasonal Location: Silver City, NM/Gila National Forest/Fort Bayard Admin. Site Target Audience: The Silver City Hotshots are looking for highly motivated adults with a strong work ethic and ability to work outdoors. You must be able to perform hard physical labor in remote areas of the nation’s forests and grasslands for long extended periods of time in primitive living conditions, while engaged in high stress and high risk wild-land and urban interface fire environments, as well as all ‘All Risk’ incidents. Seeking: • Individuals with at least 1 season experience in wild-land fire • Chainsaw experience, thinning and felling experience (B sawyer or better) • Proven individuals who can work in a structured cohesive team environment • Individuals who are physically fit and self-motivated to be the best • Individual who are mentally conditioned to work in a close quarters team environment Criteria for GS Levels 3-5 GS-03: No experience required but preferred GS-04: 90 days experience in wild-land fire with satisfactory performance rating GS-05: 120 days specialized experience in wild-land fire, Qualified as FFT1, Completed S-290 NWCG Course. Glenwood Ranger District may be filling seasonal positions as wildland firefighters, fire lookouts, and trail crews for the 2013 season. The positions will be for seasonal non-permanent positions with the duty station at Glenwood, N.M. Depending on the vacancy announcement an applicant applies for, they may serve as Engine or Hand Crew Members, Lookout, or Trail Crew members. Interested applicants will need to apply through www.usajobs.gov Firefighting: Seasonal jobs in wildland fire-fighting include working on an engine crew or hand crew. You will be working in fire suppression, prevention, and aid in natural disasters. These are tough, physical jobs usually performed in primitive, backcountry conditions. In addition to specific requirements for each kind of job, a firefighter must be in top physical condition for the demanding work. Employees and applicants must pass the Work Capacity Test (WCT) annually before working on the fire line. The Forest Service will provide employees with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) clothing, hardhat and fire shelter. However, you must provide your own vibram lug soled, leather eight-inch high boots. They operate radios, telephones, and other necessary equipment to exchange information for fire weather and other forest suppression activities. Gives smoke and fire reports by location, estimated size, and other pertinent information. Read simple weather instruments and report wind direction, wind speed, temperature, humidity, and fire behavior information. Keep dispatchers and fire officials informed of current conditions. For more information contact: Ramon Woods ([email protected]) 575-539-2481 Trail Crew: Employees build and maintain trails on the North Zone of the Gila National Forest (Quemado, Reserve, and Glenwood Ranger Districts). Requires hard physical labor, remote primitive camping, backpacking , and hiking long distances. The typical trail work schedule consists of four, ten hour days in the field with three days off. Employees will use hand and power tools to clear vegetation from trails, build trail tread and various trail features (retention walls, waterbars, drainage ditches, etc.) The Forest Service will provide employees with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) hardhat, gloves and camping gear. However, you must provide your own clothing including long sleeved shirts, pants, and vibram lug soled, leather eight- inch high boots.
