We provide financial assistance to artists, arts organisations, local authorities and others for artistic purposes. We offer advice and information on the arts to Government and to a wide range of individuals and organisations. As an advocate for the arts and artists, we undertake projects and research, often in new and emerging areas of arts practice, and increasingly in co-operation with partner organisations. Arts Council funding from the exchequer for 2004 was e54.5 million*. The 53rd Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2004. Presented to the Government and laid before each house of the Oireachtas pursuant to sections 25 (2) and 26 (1) of the Arts Act, 2003. *e52.5 million was received by the Arts Council for 2004. At the end of that year, an extra e2 million in supplementary funding was provided to the Arts Council specifically for the Abbey Theatre, thus an overall total of e54.5 million was provided to the Arts Council for 2004.
