The profile contains information on the administrative set up of the State, its physical and geographical features, resources, man power, infrastructure facilities, present position of large, medium and small scale industries etc. in the state. The report also explores the possibilities for future development of micro, small and medium scale industries based on locally available resources and demand pattern for various consumers, consumer semi durable and durable goods in the State. I would like to inform that this Institute has created a website- http//:www.msmedi- guwahati.gov.in to disseminate information on various activities of this Institute as well as information pertaining to MSMEs. There are also a good number of large and medium scale industries including four oil Refineries in the public sector, which can sustain large number of small scale vendors. However, the growth of industries particularly in the MSME sector has not taken place to the desired extent despite availability of resources for industrial exploitation. The major roadblock for rapid industrialization is found to be more than one. The state has insufficient infrastructural facilities, deficient power generation which require immediate remedial measures. The credit – deposit ratio is also much below the All India average. The Industrial policy of Assam, 2008 aims to develop and promote ecologicaly complaint industries based on the core strengths of the state of Assam. The new policy identifies the following key potential areas: 1. Multi Cropping in Agriculture 2. Tea 3. Plywood 4. Agar Wood Oil 5 Silk 6. Bamboo 7. Horticulture 8. Food Processing 9. Fresh water Processing 10. Other Potential areas include Oil, Gas, Coal and Minerals like Limestone, China Clay, Glass Sand, Iron ore, Silimanite and Granite 11. Tourism The Industrial and Investment Policy Assam 2014 has identified the following thrust areas • Food processing and Agro based Industries • Mineral based industries 4 • Bamboo based industries • Extraction and Value Addition of Herbal Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, • Bio-Technology sector, • Information Technology related activities. • Hospitality industry and Tourism, etc. The opening up Border Trade with the neighboring countries of the state along with ″Act East Policy″ of the government are expected to bring economic boom and offer investment opportunities to the people of Assam. The development of Border trade Center at Sutarkhandi and Mancachar will open new horizon of industrial development of the state. The State is located between 2400´to 28018´North latitude and 89o50´ to 97o4´ East longitude. The State is spread over a geographical area of 78.44 thousand sq km and shares boundary with the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur in the East, West Bengal and Bangladesh in the west, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram in the south and Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh in the North. The State has 27 districts, out of which four districts are under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). Topography of the major part of the state is plain except two districts namely Karbi-Anglong and Dima Hasao. Altitude of the State ranges between 50 mt to 1650 mt from MSL. With the Indian independence, Assam became a constituent state of the Indian Republic. The State has 126 Legislative Assembly constituencies and 14 Parliament constituencies. Like the rest of the country, Assam has a three-tier judicial system and it inherits the Indian Legal System with its well developed laws of Property, Contracts and Torts as well as Criminal Law, etc. (a) Climate: Average rainfall of the state is recorded as 2282.2 mm . The State falls within Agro- Climatic zone II. Based upon agro-climatic characteristics, the State has been sub-divided into eight major sub-zones primarily based upon rainfall, temperature and soil moisture regimes. These are namely, i) Upper Brahmaputra Valley (North); ii) Upper Brahmaputra Valley (South); iii) Central Brahmaputra Valley (South); iv) Lower Brahmaputra Valley (North west); v) Lower Brahmaputra Valley (North); vi) Lower Brahmaputra Valley (South); vii) Barak Valley; viii) Hill sub-zones.

As per reports, the dairy farmers had to throw away their milk in the river and pond due to loss of supply provision . This article presents the scenario of milk farming uplifting living condition and economic status of the Dairy farmers . Field report reveals that covid19 virus had a severe impact on dairy farmers livelihood . Coronavirus had negative impact on their daily activities and even milkmen could neither sell milk nor could buy fodder for the cattle . The present study was conducted in Gorkha population concentrated in the 10th mile area of Guwa- hati (Kamrup), Assam . Basically, this area has the community engaged in rearing cow and goat and with milk business they supply milk to the greater Guwahati area . The study was based on qualitative research using in-depth interview and telephonic interview to collect information . The study has used both primary data and secondary data . The study was conducted in the rural area in order to find out the basic challenges encountered by the dairy farmers during first part of lockdown days due toCOVID 19 . Wetlands like river, beels, marshes provide a significant habitat for incalculable species of birds. The purpose of this study was to find out the diversity and abundance of avifauna in two selected wetlands of Dimoria region namely Jalikhara and Etila. The study was conducted between March 2016 to April 2017. The line transect method was used to collect data on bird diversity and abundance. And to determine the species diversity Shannon-Weiner diversity index (Hꞌ) was used. A total of 45 bird species belonging to 23 families were recorded. Both the Jalikhara and Etila beel are rich in avifaunal diversity. But the diversity of Etila is found to be comparatively lower (3.17) than the Jalikhara (3.68). And the family Ardeidae is found abundantly in Jalikhara beel while Sturnidae is the most abundant family in Etila beel. The main reason behind it is the avoidance of Etila beel by water birds is due to high effluent discharge by Hindustan Paper Corporation (Nogoan Paper Mill).
