History of Badminton Facts and Records History of Badminton In 1873, the Duke of Beaufort held a lawn party at his country house in the village of Badminton, Gloucestershire. A game of Poona was played on that day and became popular among British society’s elite. The new party sport became known as “the Badminton game”. In 1877, the Bath Badminton Club was formed and developed the first official set of rules. The Badminton Association was formed at a meeting in Southsea on 13th September 1893. It was the first National Association in the world and framed the rules for the Association and for the game. The popularity of the sport increased rapidly with 300 clubs being introduced by the 1920’s. Rising to 9,000 shortly after World War Π. The International Badminton Federation (IBF) was formed in 1934 with nine founding members: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Denmark, Holland, Canada, New Zealand and France and as a consequence the Badminton Association became the Badminton Association of England. From nine founding members, the IBF, now called the Badminton World Federation (BWF), has over 160 member countries. The future of Badminton looks bright. Badminton was officially granted Olympic status in the 1992 Barcelona Games. Indonesia was the dominant force in that first Olympic tournament, winning two golds, a silver and a bronze; the country’s first Olympic medals in its history. More than 1.1 billion people watched the 1992 Olympic Badminton competition on television. Eight years later, and more than a century after introducing Badminton to the world, Britain claimed their first medal in the Olympics when Simon Archer and Jo Goode achieved Mixed Doubles Bronze in Sydney. Only three countries have won the Thomas Cup since its inception in 1948: Malaysia, Indonesia and China. Only four countries have won the Uber Cup since its inception in 1956: USA, Japan, China and Indonesia. The badminton player with the longest name is thought to be Channarongratanasaengsuang, who won 16 caps for Thailand in the 1960s. Subject to confirmation, China’s Fu Haifeng holds the world record for the fastest smash, recording a 206 mph (332 kph) hit during the Sudirman Cup in Beijing. This breaks the previous record of 162 mph (206 kph), which was held by England’s Simon Archer. The first recorded tournament was staged by Guilford BC in 1898. It was so successful that BADMINTON England (then called the Badminton Association ) followed suit and the following year a one-day event was held at the London Scottish Rifles drill hall in London. This was the birth of the world’s greatest, and most famous, badminton tournament, the All England Open Championships which has been sponsored by Yonex since 1983. Badminton players run over a mile in just one match. The record number of All England titles won by one palyer is 21 and is held by Sir George Thomas. It is said that the best shuttles are made from the feathers of the left wing of a goose. 1 Facts and Records Olympic Games Badminton was included as a Demonstration Sport for the first time at the Olympic Games in Munich in September 1972. An Invitation Tournament was held and Elliot Stuart, Derek Talbot and Gillian Gilks were invited to compete. Derek Talbot and Gillian Gilks won the mixed doubles. • BLM Statement Final Branded
Sport and recreation sector commit to tackling inequality The appalling death of George Floyd, the global protests that have followed and the powerful message of the Black Lives Matter movement has made every section of society take notice and confront an ugly truth. Sport and recreation has an influential role to bring about meaningful change and this period has rightly led the sector to reflect, listen, question, learn and openly discuss how to take positive action. It is acknowledged that up to this point, we have not done enough. It is time to confront racism and inequality that exists across sport, from grassroots participation through to the boardroom. Research by the Sport and Recreation Alliance (2018) showed that four in ten (40%) of BAME participants have endured a negative experience in sport or physical activity settings, more than double that of white participants. A 2020 Sport England report demonstrates that just over 50% of black people in England meet the recommended levels of physical activity each week. The Diversity in Sport Governance report (2018/19) identified there is only 5% BAME board representation across Sport England and UK Sport funded organisations. Constructive work has already been started to address a number of these problems including a committed effort to increase boardroom diversity, additional funding to tackle inequality and an array of inspiring inclusiveness projects from across the sport and recreation sector. This can only be seen as the start. Systemic change must be made at all levels so that we can become truly reflective of our wonderfully diverse society. We can no longer rely on black role models at the elite level speaking out, we must join together to become better and to support every member of the sport and recreation community.

  • BAB I PENDAHULUAN A. Latar Belakang Masalah Olahraga

Submitted 04 April 2021; Accepted in final form 28 June 2021. ABSTRACT Background. This study aims to analyze the movement of backhand and forehand smash stroke techniques in badminton in three dimensions using a kinematics approach. Objectives. The obtained results were analyzed using a descriptive and quantitative approach. Methods. Furthermore, 24 male badminton players from the university student activity unit with an average age of 19.4 ± 1.6 years, height of 1.73 ± 0.12 m, and weight of 62.8 ± 3.7 kg participated in this study. The study was conducted using 3 Panasonic Handycams, a calibration set, 3D Frame DIAZ IV motion analysis software, and a speed radar gun. Results. The data normalization from the kinematics values of the shoulder, elbow, and wrist joint motion was calculated using the inverse dynamics method. In addition, a one-way ANOVA test was used to identify differences in the kinematics of motion between two different groups. The obtained results showed that the speed of the shuttlecock during the forehand smash was greater than that during the backhand smash. In the maximal shoulder external rotation phase, two variables were identified to have the best results during the forehand smash, i.e., the velocity of shoulder external rotation and wrist palmar flexion.

  • BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.1 Latar Belakang Bulutangkis Adalah Salah
