Mumbai, 18 November, 2009: In its constant endeavor to deliver the best and the unique, UTV World Movies leaves no stone unturned to introduce its audience to a legendary Indian director. Now UTV World Movies has started including major talent like veteran cinematographers/ writers etc from the film fraternity every month in 50 movies to see before you die. To live up to its promise, the channel brings to you Anil Mehta, cinematographer turned director. UTV World Movies gives you this splendid opportunity to view four of Mehta’s favorite international movies every Thursday at 8.30 pm.

A prominent cinematographer, writer and director of movies, Anil Mehta studied cinematography at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He has shot smash hit films like , Saathiya, Veer-Zaara and the recently launched . His directorial debut film was released on November 2007 which also marked the comeback of the evergreen . Anil Mehta won the National Film Award for Best Cinematography for his work in the internationally famous film .

Talking about the films that he has selected Anil Mehta said, “I feel that utv movies is doing a great job of bringing quality international cinema to Indian audiences. For a nation so used to ‘staple diet’ on television, utv world movies is like ‘fine dining’. The films that are on my short list are both entertaining and serious. A combination that makes for compulsive viewing. From Luc besson the stylist to Aki Kaurismaki the somber ponderer lies a wide arc of cinema that should be on the ‘must see’ list of any cinephile. For me as a practicing professional, viewing the widest cross section of cinema, is vital and enriching”

Manasi Sapre, Programming Head, UTV World Movies, said “Apart from being the unparalleled cinematographer in the Bollywood industry, Anil Mehta is also a promising director. It’s a proud moment for UTV World Movies when a veteran like him shares his views on world cinema on our channel.”

Acclaimed as one of Kaurismaki's most accomplished early films, “Ariel” follows the exploits of the laconic Taisto, a newly-unemployed Lapland miner who sets off in a Cadillac convertible for a fresh start in Helsinki. Taitso's plans take a series of unexpected turns in this dryly comic and satirical mélange of road movie and film noir. “Subway” was the film that brought fame and international notoriety to french film director Luc Besson. It is a stunning cinematographic experience which offers a grueling visual feast which hooks the spectator from the start. This is a film which tackles conventional films from a most unconventional perspective. “Inju” is a very extreme and vicious kind of thriller. It's a rivalry between two writers. Handsomely shot in black and white, "I Always Wanted to Be a Gangster" is a pleasant four-chapter reverie on modest but failed aspirations and unlikely contentment.

So tune in to 50 Movies to see before you die, to watch some incredible films, every Thursday at 8.30 pm
