In an increasing number of occupa- tional fields, degree programmes and disciplines, writing skills are not only required in one’s mother tongue but also in English as the lingua franca of international communication. The observation that writing skills often do not develop to a sufficient extent if they are not fostered actively but rather considered a by-product of vocational or academic training has led to a number of initiatives such as, for example, the introduction

Development and Construct Validation of the ‘Adolescent Physical Activity Correlates’ (APAC) Questionnaires by Con Burns BA (Phys Ed), MA. 2012 Thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, University of Limerick. Candidate Supervisor: Dr. Ciaran MacDonncha Submitted to the University of Limerick, May 2012 Do mo chlann go léir, gabhaim buíochas daoibh ABSTRACT DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF THE ‘ADOLESCENT PHYSICAL ACTIVITY CORRELATES’ (APAC) QUESTIONNAIRE Con Burns BA (Phys Ed.), MA. The primary aim of this research was to develop and validate a tool to measure the correlates of physical activity among adolescent males and females. Secondary aims were to investigate the correlate profiles and objectively measured activity levels of Irish adolescents. Correlates of physical activity were measured using the ‘Adolescent Physical Activity Correlate’ (APAC) questionnaire, developed for this research based on previously validated tools. Physical activity levels were assessed using Actigraph triaxial accelerometers. Five separate research studies were undertaken which examined correlates of activity, levels of activity and validity of the questionnaire. Study one which was exploratory in nature, provided some evidence to support the construct validity of the ‘APAC’ questionnaire. Study two used a series of focus groups to further inform key facilitators and barriers to physical activity among Irish adolescents. Study three measured correlate profiles and activity levels among Irish adolescents using a questionnaire which had construct validity. Males reported a higher correlate profile and had higher levels of activity compared to females. Key correlates identified in the research were participation in sport, physical activity stage of change, self-efficacy and peer support.

Switch's sole purpose is to reset all the cards in your hand; the first player to play his final card, and ergo is left with no cards left, wins the game. The switch is very similar to the games UNO, Flaps and Mau Mau, both belonging to the great Crazy Eights or shed family card games. The game is also widely known as Jack Changes, Crazy Eights, Take Two, Black Jack and Peanuckle in the UK and Ireland. If the user ends up on the so-called fire card, the user can pick up, and put another fire card immediately, unless indicated in advance. The ace can be used as any card. Objective Switch is played with regular, one deck playing cards, or with two standard decks (shuffled into one) if there are a large number of players. Each player, in turn, can play any card from his hand, which corresponds to the suit or rank of the card previously played; for example, if the previous card was seven clubs, the next player could put down any seven cards, or any club card, out of their hands.

  • Ireland in the Reign of Henry VIII: the Making of Tudor Political Theology, 1515-47
Ireland in the reign of Henry VIII: the making of Tudor political theology, 1515-47 James Leduc Vol. 1 of 2 The University of Dublin, Trinity College The School of Histories and Humanities The Department of History Supervisor: Professor Jane Ohlmeyer Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor in Philosophy (2021) i Declaration I declare that this thesis has not been submitted as an exercise for a degree at this or any other university and it is entirely my own work. I agree to deposit this thesis in the University’s open access institutional repository or allow the library to do so on my behalf, subject to Irish Copyright Legislation and Trinity College Library conditions of use and acknowledgement. (James Leduc) ii Summary A fragmented land of lordships and crown territories, by the reign of Henry VIII (1509- 47), Ireland was a renewed site of English intervention as the Tudor regime sought to impose its authority across the island. Yet, while historians recognise Henry VIII’s reign as a watershed in Irish history, most see the king’s break with Rome (1534-6) and the beginning of the Reformation as an act of legal schism with little to no immediate theological impact. When viewed through the lens of political theology, however, the ramifications of royal claims to sovereignty over church and kingdom become clearer and new avenues for thinking about order, power, and governance in Ireland appear. Exploring the making of Tudor political theology against North Atlantic and Eurasian worlds, this thesis argues that the break with Rome coalesced with the ramifications of the Kildare Rebellion (1534-5) and the Act of Kingly Title (1541) to alter the terms of Christian sovereignty and life in Ireland.
